There are two main options for measuring the phase currents as described above. First option is to use

a shunt resistor and a shunt ampliﬁer like the LT1999 or the AD8418A. The other option is to use a real

current sensor, which uses the Hall eﬀect or other magnetic eﬀects to implement an isolated current

measurement. Shunt measurement might be the more cost-eﬀective solution for low voltage applications

up to 100V, while current sensors are more useful at higher voltage levels.

In general the sample circuit in ﬁg. 47 can be used for shunt measurement circuitry. Please consider

design guidelines of shunt ampliﬁer supplier additionally. TRINAMIC also supplies power stage boards
