1. Ensure the oor surface is smooth, level, dry, and clean. Check for cracks, gapped
seams, nails, or other damage. Patch or ll any large holes (A).
2. Calculate the center of the room by measuring the length and width and divide the
dimensions in two. Mark the center of the room. This is the approximate starting point
for the installation (B).
3. Using a rubber mallet, lay the tiles from the center point of the room in both directions
toward the wall to form a cross (C). To assure a symmetrical installation, adjust the
center point so the distance between the outermost tiles and the wall is equal.
4. Fill in each of the four quadrants. Work in full rows or columns to assure the
installation remains squared (D).
5. To t perimeter tiles, measure the distance between the outermost tiles and walls.
Cut the perimeter tiles to the appropriate size. To t tiles around irregular shapes (i.e.
door jambs, pipes, etc.), create a pattern using heavy paper or cardboard. Trace the
pattern onto the tile and cut accordingly.
Helpful Tips
- To cut a straight edge or create an area mat, mark a line
with a straight edge and trim with heavy duty snips or your
preferred cutting tool.
- Always use appropriate safety precautions when cutting
and installing tile, which includes wearing protective eyewear
and cutting gloves.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Utility oor can be swept with a vacuum or broom. For
heavily soiled areas, use a damp mop and mild detergent.
Allow oor to dry thoroughly before walking on tiles.
- In some heavy trafc instances, tiles may shift or tabs may
raise slightly. Simply step on the tab or use a rubber mallet
to pound the tab back into place.
