Get to Know about Touch P5 This chapter introduces what your Touch P5 can do, and shows its appearance, main features, operation requirements and positioning methods. 1 1. 1. Requirements for Operation To connect and use your Touch P5 for Internet sharing, you must have the following: • Broadband Internet Access Service (DSL/Cable/Ethernet). • One DSL/Cable Modem that has an RJ45 connector (which is not necessary if your Touch P5 is connected directly to the Ethernet). • Computers with an active Ethernet Adapter and an Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors. • TCP/IP protocol on each computer.
Configure Touch P5 as a Router This chapter introduces how to connect and configure your Touch P5 in router mode which will provide Internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices simultaneously. 2 Touch P5 supports two configuration methods: Web-based utility and Touchscreen utility. Web-based utility includes the configuration for all functions, and it requires a connection (wired or wireless) between your Touch P5 and the device you are using to log into the web-based management page.
2. 1 Connect Your Touch P5 Follow the steps below to connect your Touch P5. 1. Install the antennas and position them vertically. Note: If your Internet connection is through an Ethernet cable from the wall, instead of a modem, connect the Ethernet cable directly to your Touch P5’s Internet port, and skip step 2,3,4. 2. Turn off the modem, and remove the backup battery if it has one. 3. Connect the modem to the Internet port of your Touch P5 via an Ethernet cable. 4.
2. 2 Log into Your Touch P5 You can log in and manage your Touch P5 through the touchscreen or web-based utility. Option 1: Through Touchscreen Utility (Recommended) 1. Tap the home button or the screen and slide to start the screen. 2. The first time you log in, you will need to set a new administrator password for your Touch P5. Enter the new password and enter again to confirm. Tap Save, then follow the Quick Setup to complete the initial configuration.
Note: Apps on the touchscreen will also need to use the new password that you have set to log in. Chapter 2 .
2. 3 Quick Setup The Quick Setup app will guide you through the process to set up your Touch P5 to access the Internet. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Quick Setup icon to open it. 2. Set your Region and Time Zone and tap Next. Note: Per FCC regulations, all Wi-Fi products marketed in the U.S. are fixed to the U.S. region. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the configuration.
2. 4 Mode Selection The Mode Selection app helps you easily switch your Touch P5 to a router, repeater or an access point. Router Mode (Default): Touch P5 can provides Internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices simultaneously. Repeater Mode: Touch P5 can extend your existing wireless coverage by repeating the wireless signal. Access Point Mode: Touch P5 can transform your existing wired network to a wireless network. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Mode Selection icon to open it. 2.
2. 5 Wireless Settings The Wireless Settings app helps you customize the wireless settings including the wireless radio, wireless network name, password and security option, etc., according to your needs. On the menu screen, tap the Wireless Settings icon to open it. Set your Region. Note: Per FCC regulations, all Wi-Fi products marketed in the U.S. are fixed to the U.S. region. To enable or disable the wireless function: Select the wireless network 2.4GHz or 5GHz and enable the Wireless Radio.
2. Select the wireless network 2.4GHz or 5GHz and select Hide SSID, and your SSID will not broadcast. Your SSID won’t display when you scan for local wireless network list on your wireless device and you need to manually join the network. To change the security option: Select the wireless network 2.4GHz or 5GHz and choose your Security Type, and enter the corresponding encryption parameters, your Touch P5 provides four options: • No Security: Select this option to disable the wireless security.
Beacon Interval: Enter a value between 40 and 1000 in milliseconds to determine the duration between beacon packets that are broadcasted by your Touch P5 to synchronize the wireless network. The default is 100 milliseconds. RTS Threshold: Enter a value between 1 and 2346 to determine the packet size of data transmission through your Touch P5. By default, the RTS (Request to Send) Threshold size is 2346.
2. 6 WPS The WPS app helps you quickly establish a secure wireless connection between the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) supported devices and your Touch P5. Wireless devices that support WPS, including Android phones, tablets, and most USB network cards, can connect to your Touch P5 through this method. (WPS is not supported by IOS devices.) Note: The WPS function cannot be configured if the wireless function of your Touch P5 is disabled.
3) Success will appear on the above screen, which means the client device has successfully connected to your Touch P5. Note: Connection failed will appear if the connection cannot be established within 2 minutes. Option 2: Use the PIN Use this option if your client device asks for your Touch P5’s PIN. 1) Tap Connect to this router via PIN on the above screen of your Touch P5 to get the PIN, you can use the default one or generate a new one. 2) On the client device, enter your Touch P5’s PIN to connect.
2. 7 Guest Network The Guest Network app allows you to provide Wi-Fi access for guests without disclosing your main network. When you have guests in your house, apartment, or workplace, you can create a guest network for them. In addition, you can assign permissions for guest network users to ensure the security and privacy of your main network. On the menu screen, tap the Guest Network icon to open it. To enable or disable the guest network: Guest Network is enabled by default.
To limit the guest network authorities: Allow guests to see each other: Select this checkbox to allow the clients in your guest network to access each other. Allow guests to access my local network: Select this checkbox to allow the clients in your guest network access your local network shares and printers, not just Internet access. Chapter 2 .
2. 8 Parental Controls The Parental Controls app allows you to block inappropriate, explicit and malicious websites; restrict access by certain times of day (for example, client devices can only visit www.tp-link.com during office hours); and at the same time it protects every device on your home network against malware and phishing through one central control point.
1 ) Tap View to see devices connected to your Touch P5 at present and select your desired device(s). Or, enter the Device Name and MAC Address manually if your desired device isn’t connected to your Touch P5 at present. 2 ) Enter the Description of the device. Tap Enable This Entry. 3 ) Tap Internet Access Time to set time for the device. Single: Select to set Internet access time for every single day respectively. Multiple: Select to set Internet access time for multiple days simultaneously.
1 ) Select the restriction mode. • In Blacklist mode, the controlled devices cannot access any websites containing the specified keywords during the Internet Access Time period. • In Whitelist mode, the controlled devices can only access the websites in the whitelist during the Internet Access Time period. 2 ) Tap Add to Add a New Keyword or Add a New Domain Name, then tap Done to add the rule. You can add up to 32 keywords for Blacklist and 32 domain names for Whitelist.
2. 9 Devices Control The Devices Control app helps to view the client information and block unauthorized users (wired or wireless) from connecting to your Touch P5. I want to: Block some specific client devices from connecting to my Touch P5. How can I do that? 1. On the menu screen, tap the Devices Control icon to open it. Toggle the button to enable Devices Control. 2. Tap Online Devices to view the connected clients. 3. Select the device(s) to be blocked and tap Block. Chapter 2 .
4. The blocked device(s) will be added to Devices in Blacklist automatically. Note: If you want to add a device manually or delete a blocked device, tap Edit on the Devices In Blacklist page to set up according to your needs. Done! Now devices in the blacklist cannot connect to your Touch P5. Chapter 2 .
2. 10 Printer Server The Printer Server app guides you how to share a printer with different computers connected to your Touch P5. 1. Install the Driver of the Printer Make sure you have installed the driver of the printer on each computer that needs printer service. If you do not have the driver, contact the printer manufacturer. 2. Connect the Printer Cable a printer to the USB port of your Touch P5 with a USB cable. Restart the Printer Server app again to see the Printer Name listed on the screen.
4. Access the Printer You should set the shared printer as Auto-Connect Printer on every computer that needs printer service. on your desktop to launch the USB Printer Controller. 1) Double-click the icon 2) Highlight the printer you share. Windows Mac 3) Click the Auto-Connect for Printing tab to pull down a list, then select Set Auto-Connect Printer. Windows Chapter 2 .
Mac 4) Select the printer you share, then click Apply. Windows Mac Chapter 2 .
5) You will see the printer marked as Auto-Connect Printer. Now you can print with this printer. Windows Mac Note: The Print Server also allows different clients to share the scan feature of MFPs (Multi-Function Printers). To scan with TP-LINK USB Printer Controller, right-click the printer and select Network Scanner. Then, a scanning window will pop up. Follow on-screen instructions to finish the scanning process. Chapter 2 .
2. 11 DDNS Most ISPs (Internet service providers) assign a dynamic IP address to your Touch P5 and you can use this IP address to access your Touch P5 remotely. However, the IP address can change any time and you don’t know when it changes. In this case, you might need the DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server) feature on your Touch P5 to allow you and your friends to access your Touch P5 and local servers (FTP, HTTP, etc.) using domain name, in no need of checking and remembering the IP address.
2. 12 LAN The LAN app helps to change the default LAN settings of your Touch P5. Touch P5 is preset with a default LAN IP 192.168.0.1, which you can use to log in to its web-based management page. The LAN IP address together with the Subnet Mask also defines the subnet that the connected devices are on. If the IP address conflicts with another device on your local network or your network requires a specific IP subnet, you can change it. 1. On the menu screen, tap the LAN icon to open it. 2.
2. 13 DHCP Server The DHCP Server app can configure your Touch P5 to act as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server to assign IP addresses to its clients and view client information from the client list. To use the DHCP server of your Touch P5, you must configure all computers on the LAN as “Obtain an IP Address automatically”. You can also manually reserve an IP address for a client that is connected to your Touch P5.
The Address Lease Time is the amount of time in which a DHCP client can lease its current dynamic IP address assigned by your Touch P5. After the dynamic IP address expires, the client will be automatically assigned a new dynamic IP address. 5) The Default Gateway is automatically filled the same as the LAN IP address of your Touch P5. Enter Primary DNS and Secondary DNS if the ISP offers. 6) Tap Save. To view the client information: 1) Select DHCP Client List.
5) Check the Enable This Entry box and tap Save to make the settings effective (shown as figure below). Note: If you want to modify a reserved address, tap the reserved address to modify it. If you want to add or delete a reserved address, tap Edit to set up according to your needs. Chapter 2 .
2. 14 QoS By default, the Internet bandwidth is shared by connected devices and applications, which means that the bandwidth of each device or application is uncontrollable while they are sharing the Internet. When some device is streaming video on Internet or downloading with P2P software, it will affect the Internet experience of other applications. The QoS (Quality of Service) app can help to specify priority levels for some devices or applications, thus help to avoid the situation. 1.
4) Tap Save. 3. Return to the home screen of QoS, and select High, Middle or Low Priority to Add the rules. Here we use High Priority as an example. 4. Select By Device to add the rule: Tap View to choose the respective device, if the device is not listed, enter the Device Name and MAC Address manually. Tap Save to add the rule to the list.
5. The QoS rule will list in the priority table. Note: If you want to add or delete a QoS rule, tap Edit to set up according to your needs. Chapter 2 .
2. 15 Clock The Clock app displays the time while your Touch P5 is running. The system time you configure here will be used for other time-based functions like Parental Controls. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Clock icon to open it. 2. Tap to configure the time settings. To set the time of your Touch P5: 1) Select Time Settings. 2) Toggle on or off to customize the time display in 12-hour or 24-hour format.
c . In the NTP Server II field, enter the IP address or domain name of the second NTP Server. (Optional) d . Tap Obtain to get the time and then tap Save. Manually: Select to set the date and time manually, then tap Save. To set up daylight saving time of your Touch P5: 1) Select Daylight Saving Time. 2) Select the checkbox to enable Daylight Saving Time. Set the start and end time and then tap Save. Chapter 2 .
To set up the display type of the clock: 1) Select Clock Display. 2) Select the clock type and tap Save. 3) To use your Touch P5 as a clock, you need to stay at the home page of Clock app. Then the clock will display on the screen while your Touch P5 is locked. Note: Overusing the screen as a clock will decrease the life span of the screen. Chapter 2 .
2. 16 Screen Settings The Screen Settings app helps to set the brightness and screen saver of your Touch P5. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Screen Settings icon to open it. 2. Drag the scroll bar to set the brightness of the screen. 3. By default, the screen saver will start if the screen is idle for 3 minutes, you can change the wait time. Note: If you select Never, the screen will stay on and never go to sleep and this will decrease the life span of the screen. Chapter 2 .
2. 17 Reboot & Reset With Reboot & Reset app, you can restart your Touch P5 or reset it to its factory default settings. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Reboot & Reset icon to open it. 2. Reboot: Your Touch P5 will shut down and boot again. Reset: To reset your Touch P5 to its factory default settings and all the settings you have configured will be erased. Note: Please do NOT power off your Touch P5 during the rebooting or resetting process. Chapter 2 .
2. 18 Administrator Password Administrator password is used to log in to the touchscreen page and web-management page of your Touch P5. You are required to set a new administrator password at your first login. You can also change it with the Administrator Password app. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Administrator Password icon to open it. 2. Enter the old password. Enter the new password and enter again to confirm. 3. Tap Save. Note: 1.
2. 19 About The About app displays the product model, hardware and firmware information of your Touch P5. On the menu screen, tap the About icon to open it. Chapter 2 .
2. 20 USB Application This section describes how to share and access USB devices connected to your Touch P5 among different clients through web-based utility. Refer to Through Web-based Utility to log into your Touch P5. Touch P5 only supports USB external flash drives, hard drives and USB printers, and does not support USB 3G/4G modems. This chapter contains the following sections: • Local Storage Sharing • Remote Access via FTP Server • Media Sharing 2. 20. 1.
3) Select the Volume Name and Folder Path, then enter a Folder Name as you like. 4) Decide the way you share the folder: Allow Guest Network Access: Tick to allow the clients in your guest network to access the shared folder. Enable Authentication: Tick to enable authentication for this folder sharing, and you will be required to use a username and password to access the USB disk. Refer to To Set up Authentication for Data Security to learn more.
3) Choose to use the default Account (admin) or use a new account and click Save. 4) Enable Authentication to apply the account you just set. • If you leave Share All enabled, click the button to enable Authentication for all folders. • If Share All is disabled, enable Authentication for specific folders. To Custo]mize the Address of the USB Disk You can customize the server name and use the name to access your USB disk. 1) Visit http://tplinkwifi.
• Get a safe backup for the materials for a presentation. • Remove the files on your camera’s memory card from time to time during the journey. Note: If your ISP assigns a private WAN IP address (such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), you cannot use this feature because private addresses are not routed on the Internet. 1. Access the USB disk 1) Connect Your USB Disk Insert your USB storage device into your Touch P5’s USB port directly or using a USB cable.
4) Access Your USB Disk via Internet Now different clients with Internet connection can access the USB disk: Computer Pad • To download, open a web browser and type the server address ftp://: (such as ftp://59.40.2.243:21) or ftp://: (such as ftp://MyDomainName:21) in the address bar, then press Enter on the keyboard. • To upload, use a third-party app for network files management.
4) Tick Enable Authentication. If you allow network clients to modify this folder, tick Enable Write Access. 5) Click OK. Note: Touch P5 can share eight volumes at most. Media Sharing The feature of Media Sharing allows you to view photos, play music and watch movies stored on the USB disk directly from DLNA-supported devices, such as your computer, pad and PS2/3. 1.
2. Customize Your Settings To Only Share Specific Content By default, Share All is enabled so all content on the USB disk is shared. If you want to only share specific folders, follow the steps below: 1) Visit http://tplinkwifi.net/, then log in with the username and password you set for your Touch P5. 2) Select Basic > USB Settings > Sharing Access. 3) Focus on the section of Folder Sharing. Click the button to disable Share All, then click Add to add a new sharing folder.
2. 21 IPv6 Connection If your ISP provides IPv6 connection and has provided some detailed IPv6 parameters, you can configure your Touch P5 to permit IPv6 connection. 1. Visit http://tplinkwifi.net/, and log in with the username and password you set for your Touch P5. 2. Go to Advanced > IPv6 to enable IPv6 connection. 3. Select the Internet connection type provided by ISP. Fill in information as required by different connection type.
5. Click Status on the left to check whether you succeed or not. The following figure is an example of a successful PPPoE configuration. Chapter 2 .
2. 22 IPTV If your ISP provides IPTV service and has provided some detailed IPTV parameters, you can configure your Touch P5 to permit IPTV connection. I want to: Configure IPTV setup to enable Internet /IPTV /Phone service provided by my Internet Service Provider (ISP). How can I do that? 1. Visit http://tplinkwifi.net/, and log in with the username and password you set for your Touch P5. 2. Go to Advanced > Network > IPTV to open the configuration page. 3.
Done! Your IPTV setup is done now! You may need other configurations on your set-top box before enjoying your TV. Chapter 2 .
2. 23 NAT Forwarding Touch P5’s NAT (Network Address Translation) feature makes the devices in the LAN use the same public IP address to communicate in the Internet, which protects the local network by hiding IP addresses of the devices. However, it also brings about the problem that external host cannot initiatively communicate with the specified device in the local network.
Note: 1. It is recommended to keep the default settings of Internal Port and Protocol if you are not clear about which port and protocol to use. 2. If the service you want to use is not in the list of Service Type, you can enter the corresponding parameters manually. You should verify the ports number that the service needs. 3. You can add multiple virtual server rules if you want to provide several services in your Touch P5. Please note that the External Port cannot be overlapped.
Note: 1. You can add multiple port triggering rules according to your network needs. 2. If the application you want to use is not in the list of Existing Applications, you can enter the corresponding parameters manually. You should verify the ports number that the application needs. 2. 23. 3.

Make Xbox Online Games Run Smoothly by UPnP UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) protocol allows the applications or host devices to automatically find the front-end NAT device and send request to it to open the corresponding ports.

2. 25 FAQ Q1 What can I do if I cannot access the Internet? 1. Check if the Internet is working properly by connecting a computer directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable. If not, contact your Internet Service Provider. 2. Tap Quick Setup on the menu screen to run the setup again. 3. Tap Reboot & Reset on the menu screen, select Reboot to reboot your Touch P5 and try again. 4.
4) Click LAN settings, deselect the following three options and click OK; 5) Go to Advanced > Restore advanced settings, and click OK. Chapter 2 .

Reset your Touch P5 to factory default settings: With your Touch P5 powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the back panel until the Touch P5 logo displays. Note: You’ll need to reconfigure your Touch P5 to surf the Internet once your Touch P5 is reset. If this doesn’t solve the problem, please contact the technical support. Q7. I cannot find my wireless network or I cannot connect the wireless network, what can I do? 1.

Configure Touch P5 as a Repeater This chapter introduces how to connect and configure your Touch P5 in repeater mode which will extend existing wireless coverage by repeating the wireless signal. We recommend that you use repeater mode when your home network connection is poor, or when you want a larger wireless coverage to eliminate “dead zones”. You can also use Touch P5 as an adapter to connect any Ethernet-enabled device (such as a Blu-ray player, game console, DVR, or smart TV) to your Wi-Fi network.
3. 1 Quick Setup You can log in and manage your Touch P5 through the touchscreen or web-based utility. Option 1: Through Touchscreen Utility (Recommended) The Quick Setup app on the touchscreen will guide you through the process to connect your Touch P5 to the front host network and set up its extended network. 1. Be sure it is always within the wireless coverage of the host network. • Half-way Between - Generally, the ideal location for your Touch P5 is half-way between the host network and wireless client.
• No Interference - Choose a location away from Bluetooth devices and other household electronics, such as cordless phone, microwave, and baby monitor, etc., to minimize signal interference. 9. Connect your wireless clients to the network of your Touch P5. Note: Your Touch P5 shares your host network’s Wi-Fi password for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, but may have different wireless network name if you customize the names during the configuration.
6. Re-login and select your region and click Next. Note: Per FCC regulations, all Wi-Fi products marketed in the U.S. are fixed to the U.S. region. 7. Follow the Quick Setup instructions to complete the configuration. 8. Once the configuration is completed, please follow the instructions below to relocate your Touch P5 at an ideal location. Be sure it is always within the wireless coverage of the host network.
Note: Your Touch P5 shares your host network’s Wi-Fi password for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, but may have different wireless network name if you customize the names during the configuration. Please connect your wireless devices to the extended network of your Touch P5. Chapter 3 .
3. 2 Entertainment Adapter Your Touch P5 can be used as a wireless network adapter to help any Ethernet-only device (such as a Blu-ray player, game console, DVR, or smart TV) to connect to the host network. After your Touch P5 is connected to the host router, you can connect an Ethernet-enabled device to your Touch P5’s Ethernet port via an Ethernet cable, then these devices can connect to the wireless network of the host router. 3. 4 Wireless Settings The Wireless Settings app helps you configure the wireless settings of your host network and extended network according to your needs. 1. On the menu screen, tap the Wireless Settings icon to open it. Set your Region. Note: Per FCC regulations, all Wi-Fi products marketed in the U.S. are fixed to the U.S. region. 2. Configure the wireless settings according to your needs. To set the host network connection of your Touch P5: 1) Select Host Network. Chapter 3 .
2) Select the Connect To Host Network checkbox. 3) Tap Host SSID to scan for the host network you want to extend. 4) Select the SSID of your host network from the list. Note: If the host network you want to extend is on but not shown in the list, please try to move your Touch P5 closer to your host router, then tap Rescan. Or, select Other…to enter the SSID manually. 5) Once a network is selected, the SSID and security settings of that network will automatically be filled in.
Enable Extended Network: Enable or disable the 2.4GHz/5GHz extended network. Extended SSID: Either tap Copy Host SSID to copy the host router’s SSID or create a new name using up to 32 characters. This field is case-sensitive. Hide SSID: Select this checkbox if you want to hide your Touch P5’s SSID from the Wi-Fi network list, and your wireless device will need to manually join the network. 3. 5 Devices Control The Devices Control app helps to view the client information and block unauthorized users (wired or wireless) from connecting to your Touch P5. I want to: Block some specific client devices from connecting to my Touch P5. How can I do that? 1. On the menu screen, tap the Devices Control icon to open it. Toggle the button to enable Devices Control. 2. Tap Online Devices to view the connected clients. 3. Select the device(s) to be blocked and tap Block. Chapter 3 .
4. The blocked device(s) will be added to Devices in Blacklist automatically. Note: If you want to add a device manually or delete a blocked device, tap Edit on the Devices In Blacklist page to set up according to your needs. Done! 3. 7 DHCP Server The DHCP Server app can configure your Touch P5 to act as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server to assign IP addresses to its clients and view client information from the client list. To use the DHCP server function of your Touch P5, you must configure all computers on the LAN as “Obtain an IP Address automatically”. You can also manually reserve an IP address for a client that is connected to your Touch P5.
• IP Address Pool: The start address and end address must be on the same subnet with LAN IP. Your Touch P5 will assign addresses within this specified range to its clients. It is from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199 by default. • Address Lease Time: The amount of time in which a DHCP client can lease its current dynamic IP address assigned by your Touch P5. After the dynamic IP address expires, the client will be automatically assigned a new dynamic IP address.

Configure Touch P5 as an Access Point This chapter introduces how to connect and configure your Touch P5 in access point mode which will transform your existing wired network to a wireless network. 4. 1 Connect Your Touch P5 Follow the steps below to connect your Touch P5. 1. Install the antennas and position them vertically. 2. Your SSID won’t display when you scan for local wireless network list on your wireless device and you need to manually join the network. To change the security option: Select the wireless network 2.4GHz or 5GHz and choose your Security Type, and enter the corresponding encryption parameters, your Touch P5 provides three options: • No Security: Select this option to disable the wireless security.
4. 6 WPS The WPS app helps you quickly establish a secure wireless connection between the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) supported devices and your Touch P5. Wireless devices that support WPS, including Android phones, tablets, and most USB network cards, can connect to your Touch P5 through this method. (WPS is not supported by IOS devices.) Note: The WPS function cannot be configured if the wireless function of your Touch P5 is disabled.
