Connecting Other External Devices
Adding memory

To avoid damaging the computer’s screws, use a standard
Phillips No. 1 screwdriver that is in good condition.
Installing a memory module with the computer’s power on may
damage the computer, the module, or both.
Before you install or remove a memory module, turn off the
computer using the Start menu. If you install or remove a
memory module while the computer is in Standby or
Hibernation mode, data will be lost.
Memory module installation requires significant computer
disassembly and reassembly. If you are uncomfortable with
this, please contact your Toshiba sales representative for a
service professional to complete this procedure.
1 Shut down your computer completely using the Shut down or
Turn Off command.
See “Turning off the computer” on page 57 for more
information.
2 Unplug and remove any cables connected to the
computer, including the AC adapter.
3 Remove the battery. For information on removing the
battery, see “Changing the main battery” on page 146.
