AdjustingtheParkingBrake
ServiceInterval:Every200hours
Checktheparkingbrakeforproperadjustment.
1.Disengagebrakelever(leverdown).
2.Measurethelengthofthespring.
Themeasurementshouldbe2-3/4inch(70mm)
betweenwashers(Figure53).

3.Ifadjustmentisnecessary,loosenthejamnutbelow
thespringandtightenthenutdirectlybelowthe
yoke(Figure53).Turnthenutuntilthecorrect
measurementisobtained.Tightenthetwonuts
togetherandrepeatonoppositesideofunit.
4.Turnnutsclockwisetoshortenspringlengthand
turncounter-clockwisetolengthenthespring.
5.Engageparkingbrake,leverup.
6.Measurethedistancebetweenthetrunnionroller
andthecollaronbrakerod.
Themeasurementshouldbe3/16-1/4inch(5-7
mm)(Figure53).
7.Ifadjustmentisnecessary,loosenthejamnut
directlybelowtheyoke.Turnthebottomroduntil
thecorrectmeasurementisobtained(Figure53).

BeltMaintenance
InspectingtheBelts
ServiceInterval:Every100hours
Inspectallbeltsevery100hours.
Checkbeltsforcracks,frayededges,burnmarksorany
otherdamage.Replacedamagedbelts.
ReplacingtheMowerBelt
Squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,bladesslippingwhen
cuttinggrass,frayedbeltedges,burnmarksandcracks
aresignsofawornmowerbelt.Replacethemowerbelt
ifanyoftheseconditionsareevident.
1.DisengagethePTO,movethemotioncontrollevers
totheneutrallockedposition,andsettheparking
brake.
2.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforall
movingpartstostopbeforeleavingtheoperating
position.
3.Removethebeltcovers.
4.Loosenthenutsecuringtheidlerplateandmove
theidlerplatetorelievethebelttensionontheidler
pulley(Figure54).
5.Removethenut,washerandbeltguidefromtherear
leftsidepulley.
6.Removethemowerbeltfromthebeltguidesand
removethebelt(Figure54).
7.Installthenewmowerbeltaroundthemowerspindle
pulleys,moweridlerpulley,intothebeltguides,into
rearidlerarmassembly,andtheclutch(Figure54).
8.Installthebeltguidewithawasherandnutontothe
rearleftsidepulley.
Note:Checktheamountoftwistinthebelt
betweenthepulleys.Ensureitisonlywhatis
speciedinFigure54.
