Preparing to Replace the Idler Pulley 1. Stop the engine, move the machine to a level surface, and allow the engine to cool. 2. Remove the spark-plug wire from the spark plug (Figure 1). Figure 3 1. Replacing the Idler Pulley 6. Torque the socket-head bolt to 19.8 to 25.4 N-m (175 to 225 lb-in). 1. Remove the shoulder bolt, idler pulley, and spacer from the clutch crank (Figure 5). Installing the Belt and Belt Cover Note: Discard the old bolt, pulley, and spacer. 1.
