The engine is shipped with 1-3/4 US quarts (1.66 l) (w/ filter) of oil in the crankcase; however, the oil level must be checked before and after the engine is first started. 4. Coat the terminals and mounting fasteners with petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion. Slide the rubber boot over the positive (+) terminal to prevent a possible short from occurring.
Filling the Fuel Tank Warning Use UNLEADED Regular Gasoline suitable for automotive use (87 pump octane minimum). Leaded regular gasoline may be used if unleaded regular is not available. Gasoline is harmful or fatal if swallowed. Long-term exposure to vapors can cause serious injury and illness. Important Never use methanol, gasoline containing methanol, or gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol because the fuel system could be damaged. Do not mix oil with gasoline.
Checking the Hydraulic System 1 The machine’s reservoir is filled at the factory with approximately 3 gallons (11.4 l) of high quality hydraulic fluid. Check the level of hydraulic fluid before the engine is first started and daily thereafter. Appropriate hydraulic oils are listed below. The following list is not assumed to be all-inclusive. Hydraulic fluids produced by other manufacturers may be used if they can cross reference to find an equivalent to the products listed.
Operation Important For maximum pulling power, the throttle should be in the Fast position and the traction pedal just barely depressed. Note: Determine the left and right sides of the machine from the normal operating position. Caution Using the Controls Use the maximum ground speed only when driving from one area to another. Traction and Stopping Pedal Maximum speed is not recommended when using an attached or towed implement. The traction pedal (Fig.
Throttle Control 1 The throttle control lever (Fig. 11) connects to and operates the throttle linkage to the carburetor. The control has 2 positions: Slow and Fast. The engine speed can be varied between the 2 settings. Note: The engine cannot be stopped by the throttle control. Hour Meter The hour meter (Fig. 11) indicates the total hours of machine operation. The hour meter starts to function whenever the key switch is rotated to the On position. Figure 13 Lift Lever 1.
Since the first hours of operation are critical to future dependability of the machine, monitor its functions and performance closely so that minor difficulties, which could lead to major problems, are noted and can be corrected. Inspect the machine frequently during break-in for signs of oil leakage, loose fasteners, or any other malfunction. Caution Shut the engine off and wait for all moving parts to stop before checking for oil leaks, loose parts, and other malfunctions.
