Instructions

Maintenance, modications and repairs must be carried out by a technician or a
specialist repair centre.
If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions,
contact our technical support service or other technical personnel.
b) Persons and product
Do not use force to tighten the vice (in particular, do not hit the vice). Clamping
forces of over 10 kN (kilo Newton) may cause deformation to the handle and
adjusting spindle.
Never use a hammer or lever to overtighten the adjusting spindle.
Only clamp and work on workpieces in the vice that are suitable for the size and
weight of the vice.
Wear eye and face protection when working on clamped workpieces with impact
tools or electrical hand tools.
Never use the vice as pressure tool for disassembly or assembly.
Mounting
Mount the vice in a xed position on the worktop of a workbench or a solid frame before using it.
To fasten the vice to the workbench, use through bolts with nuts and washers. We recommend
M12. Note the thickness of the worktop and select the screw length accordingly.
The xings required (nuts and bolts) to mount the vice to the workbench are not
included with the product.
To mount the vice to a workbench, proceed as follows:
Check the clamping surfaces for cleanliness and unevenness.
If necessary, use a base made of wood or plastic to compensate for minor unevenness in the
mounting surface (worktop of the workbench).
Place the vice on the workbench so that the clamping surface of the xed rear jaw is (ideally)
vertically ush with the front edge of the workbench.
This mounting position allows the full functionality of the deep clamping option to be
used when clamping longer workpieces vertically in front of the workbench.
Mark the screw holes carefully through the base plate of the vice for drilling.
Remove the vice before drilling the holes.
Drill approx. 2 mm larger than the diameter of the screws that you are using.
Place the vice back on the worktop of the workbench and mount it with the nuts and bolts.
Use a suitable spanner.
Finally, mount the handle on the adjusting spindle (unscrew the round head from the end,
insert the handle through the hole on the adjusting spindle and screw back together).
Operation
Turn the adjusting spindle with the handle anticlockwise to separate the moving jaw from the
xed jaw. The vice opens. Open the jaws so that the workpiece passes between them easily,
with a little clearance.
Roughly align the workpiece between the clamping jaws in the required working position and
turn the adjusting spindle clockwise until the workpiece is held in place. Now adjust it more
precisely.
You can clamp the workpiece further by turning the handle. Do not overtighten as this may
damage or deform the workpiece or vice.
Tubes, round steel or other rounded workpieces can be securely clamped horizontally using
the clamping prisms or clamping prongs under the clamping jaws.
On vice no. 1780819, you can change the horizontal alignment in relation to yourself or the
workbench by turning.
To do this, undo the locking handle on the turntable and turn the vice onto the base plate.
Fasten the locking handle again when the desired angle position has been reached to lock
the vice in position.
You can now work on the workpiece.
Care and cleaning
Store the vice in a dry environment.
Never use aggressive detergents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, as these may
damage the product or cause the product to malfunction.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the surface of the product.
