- Polyamides (PA) are resistant to the effect of alkalis. But they are attacked by
mineral acids.
- Polyester (PES) is resistant to mineral acids, but is attacked by alkaline solutions.
- Polypropylene (PP) is attacked less by acids and alkaline solutions and is
suitable for applications, for which high resistance to chemicals (except a few
organic solvents) is required.
- Through evaporation, harmless acid- or alkaline solutions can become so
concentrated that they cause damage. Contaminated lashing straps are to be
taken out of service immediately, rinsed in cold water and dried in the air.
Make sure, that the parts of the vehicle to which you secure the load also have
adequate stability for this purpose.
In addition, forces of acceleration and lateral forces due to wind can occur.
Knotted lashing straps must not be used.
Straps are to be protected from friction and abrasion as well as damage due to
loads with sharp edges through the use of protective covers and/or edge protectors.
Make sure, that the straps are distributed evenly on the load to be secured.
Lashing straps must not be used as slings.
Lashing hooks must not be stressed on their tips.
Only legibly marked lashing straps provided with labels are to be used.
Lashing straps must not be overloaded. The maximum hand force S
HF
(see label)
must only be applied with one hand. No mechanical equipment such as bars or
levers etc. may be used, unless they are part of the tensioning element.
Important with roof load: The specications of the manufacturer must not be
exceeded. With improper use of the lashing strap there is a risk, that the object to
be secured is not adequately fastened.
Caution: Protect the lashing strap from sharp edges.
Damage to labels is to be prevented by keeping them away from the edges of the
load and, if possible, away from the load.
Monitoring
It must be ensured, that the lashing strap is not damaged by the edges of the load
to which it is attached. A regular visual inspection before and after every use is
recommended.
Lashing straps must be taken out of service or sent back to the manufacturer for
repair if they show signs of damage. The following points are to be regarded as
signs of damage:
- On straps (that are to be taken out of service): Cracks, cuts, notches and
fractures in load-bearing bers and seams, deformation due to the effect of heat;
- On end ttings and tensioning elements: Deformation, cracks, marked signs of
wear and corrosion.
Only those lashing straps may be repaired, that have labels for their identication.
If accidental contact with chemicals occurs, the lashing strap must be taken out of
service, and the manufacturer or supplier must be asked for advice.
Storage and maintenance
Do not store the product in the immediate vicinity of a source of heat over 90 °C.
Do not use the product any more, if it has cracks or chafe marks.
Store the product only in dry, weakly heated rooms, protected from sunlight and
mechanical damage.
Never dry or store the product close to re or places with increased temperature.
Never store the product together with chemicals. In the event of contact with
chemicals, the product must be neutralized immediately.
Disposal
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product in accordance with applicable
regulatory guidelines.
