Temperature ranges
Lashing straps are suitable for use in the following temperature ranges:
• -40 °C to +80 °C for Polypropylene (PP);
• -40 °C to +100 °C for Polyamide (PA);
• -40 °C to +120 °C for Polyester (PES).
These temperature ranges may vary depending on the chemical environment. A
change in the ambient temperature during transport can inuence the force in the
strap. The lashing strength is to be checked after entering warm regions.
Notes
• For the selection and use of lashing straps, the lashing strength required as well as
the type of use and the kind of load to be lashed must be taken into consideration.
The size, shape and weight of the load determine the correct choice, but also the
type of use intended, the transport environment and the type of load. For reasons
of stability at least two lashing straps must be used for lashing down and two pairs
of lashing straps for diagonal lashing.
• The lashing strap selected must be both strong enough as well as long enough
for the intended purpose and have the correct length with regard to the lashing
method. It is always good lashing practice to take the following into consideration:
The attachment and the removal of the lashing straps are to be planned before
beginning the journey. During a longer journey the unloading of parts is to be
taken into account. The number of lashing straps is to be calculated according
to prEN 12195-1:1995. Only those lashing systems that are designed for lashing
down with S
TF
on the label, may be used for lashing down.
• Due to different behavior and changes in length under load, different lashing
materials (e.g. lashing chains and lashing straps made from chemical bers) must
not be used for lashing the same load. When using additional ttings and lashing
equipment, it must be ensured when lashing, that these match the lashing strap.
• During the use, at hooks must be laid out with the entire width.
• Opening the lashing: Before opening, one should make sure, that the load also
stands stable without securing and that the person performing the unloading is not
endangered by the load falling down. If necessary, the lifting tackle intended for the
further transport are to be already attached to the load beforehand, to prevent the
load from falling and/or tipping. This also applies, if one uses clamping elements
that enable safe removal.
• Before beginning the unloading operation, the lashing straps must be loosened so
far, that the load is freestanding.
• During loading and unloading, attention must be given to any low-hanging
overhead lines in the vicinity.
