Activity: Scavenger hunt!
Getting to know the vocabulary on your AAC device should be a fun and interactive experience. Sit
down with the AAC user and start selecting buttons. See how things are organized and start to get
comfortable moving around the app. Invite the user to join you in a vocabulary scavenger hunt. Here is
a list of things to find:
Tip
Use the Search tool to see if the vocabulary item is already in the page set before you add anything.
A way to greet someone
Something you could use to draw a picture
A thing you wear when it’s cold
Your favorite animal
An activity you did today
Something you do outside
Your favorite food
A word to describe how you are feeling
Something you need to brush your teeth
Words to describe the weather today

Activity: Customize the page set
Regardless of which page set you choose, you will want to add some personalized vocabulary. Spend
some time reviewing the page set to find the best places to add this vocabulary. Refer to the Edit a
Button and Add a Button sections for help adding some or all of the following information:
■ Friends and family names and photos
■ Personal information, if age appropriate (e.g., email address, phone number)
■ Favorite foods and restaurants
■ Preferred TV shows and musical artists
