If you wish, you can first detach the barreled action from the stock in order to
have a freer access to the trigger-adjustment screw. To detach the barreled
action from the stock, simply remove the trigger-guard fastening screws and
lift the barreled action out of the stock. When reassembling the barreled ac-
tion to the stock, be sure to reinstall the aluminum recoil block in its proper
place in the stock.
SINGLE-SET TRIGGER MECHANISM
For use as a normal single-stage trigger, squeeze rearwards in the normal
fashion. The trigger mechanism can also be “SET” by pushing the trigger for-
ward until it stops. The rifle can now be fired with only a light touch. WARN-
ING! WHEN THE TRIGGER IS IN THE “SET” POSITION, THE RIFLE
MUST BE HANDLED WITH EXTREME CARE, AS ANY SHOCK OR VI-
BRATION CAN DISCHARGE THE RIFLE. If the rifle is cocked, with SAFE-
TY ON, the trigger CANNOT be put into the “SET” position. To return trigger
to the “UNSET” position, the safest method is to put “SAFETY ON” or open
the bolt. NOTE! When the safety is in the “ON” position it locks the trig-
ger mechanism and the bolt. The rifle can be cocked only when the
safety is in the “OFF” position.
TRIGGER ADJUSTMENT (FIG. 11)
The trigger mechanism is constructed for 10 - 20N (2-4lbs) trigger weight in
single-stage position. The trigger weight is adjusted to 13 - 15N (3lbs) at the
factory. To be sure that the single-set trigger operates correctly in all circum-
stances, the trigger weight should not be increased. The trigger weight can
be adjusted by the means of screw (1) with a 2.5mm Allen key. Turning the
screw clockwise will increase the trigger weight. NOTE! Screw (1) is self-
locking and can only be turned with a proper tool.
SET-TRIGGER ADJUSTMENT (FIG. 11)
When the trigger is in the “SET” position, the trigger weight is 2 - 2.5N (7 -
9oz.) and cannot be adjusted. The screw (2) adjusts the gap between the
trigger and the plunger of the trigger weight spring. This gap affects the creep
in unset stage and should be as small as possible, preferably the screw
should lightly touch the plunger. On the other hand if the pressure between
the screw (2) and the plunger is too heavy, it may prevent the set-trigger from
working. NOTE! Screw (2) is self-locking and unnecessary adjustments
should be avoided to keep the self-locking in good condition.
SAFETY ADJUSTMENT
The safety is permanently adjusted at the factory. However, if the trigger, trig-
ger sear or safety lever has to be changed, the safety must be readjusted.
For this operation the trigger mechanism must be returned to the factory in
Finland.
RIFLE-SCOPE ASSEMBLY
In order to outfit your Tikka T3 with a rifle-scope, you need the appropriate
scope-mounts. These will fasten to the 17mm rail on the top of the T3 receiv-
er. A circular hole on the front of the rail will act as a recoil-stop, ensuring a
positive lock between the scope-mount base and the receiver. T3 Tactical
model is outfitted with a Picatinny-rail (MIL-STD-1913) on top of the receiver,
which will accept any standard Picatinny-type scope-mount. In the Picatinny-
rail the base-screw grooves on the rail will act as recoil stops.
MOUNTING THE ORIGINAL OPTILOCK SCOPE-MOUNTS
CAUTION: Be sure the firearm is not loaded before fitting the scope-
mounts. Use safe firearm handling procedures at all times.
Original OPTILOCK scope-mounts are supplied in a box with the screws
loosely tightened or rings and bases in separate packages. Necessary Allen
keys (2.5mm for the rings and 4mm or 3mm for the bases) are included in the
box.
HOW TO FIT THE RING TO THE BASE (FIG. 12)
Align the bottom of the ring with the front part of the base, so that the two are
parallel. Tighten screw (A) with an 4mm Allen key, making sure that the ring
and the front of the base stay parallel. NOTE! The XTRA LO ring uses a
shorter screw (A) than the other rings. Same shorter screw is also used when
a normal ring is fastened to the mount for T3 Tactical Picatinny rail. Therefore
DO NOT assemble an XTRA LO ring on the mount for T3 Tactical Picatinny
rail.
HOW TO FIT THE RECOIL STOP PIN (FIG. 12)
On Tikka rifles, the recoil stop-pin (B) is located in the front scope-mount
base. The base has two holes: one towards the rear where the pin is installed
at the factory, and one towards the center. With standard-length scopes, you
can leave the base as it comes from the factory. With scopes that have a
short body, you will need to drive the pin out and fit it in the hole in the center
of the base; this will enable your rings to be closer together when mounted
on the rifle. Notice: The pin will go about 1mm below the surface of the base.
The T3 Tactical is outfitted with a Picatinny rail; so, it is the base-screws that
will act as recoil stops.
FITTING THE SCOPE-MOUNTS TO THE RIFLE
OPTILOCK bases feature a wedge-shaped locking piece (C) designed to
fasten to the T3 integral dovetail scope-mount rail, as shown in Fig. 13. The
recoil-stop pin under the front base should fit firmly into the recoil-stop hole
located in the front of scope-mount rail. The front of the rear base should be
level with the rear of the ejection port. The base screws should be on the right
side of the rifle except when the recoil-stop pin is in the center of the front
base, in which case the screw of the front base will be on the left side. The
base screws should be firmly tightened with the 4mm Allen key included in
the package. Do not over-tighten.
