This booklet contains information that is essential to the safe use and maintenance of Thompson/Center’s G2 Contender Pistol or Rifle. You must read this material in its entirety and fully understand its significance before you can safely use your G2 Contender. If a Thompson/Center G2 Contender is loaned or sold (by an individual or dealer), this booklet must accompany the firearm. Know Your Firearm Before You Attempt To Use It! Designed as a Hunting/Sports Pistol or Rifle, the G2 Contender is uniquely different from other guns. Its single shot, break open action is relatively simple to understand and safe when the required ingredients of “common sense” and “safe gun handling” are applied to its use and care. The G2 Contender operates differently than other break open firearms on the market.

The diagram on this page points out the more commonly referred to parts. Operating The G2 Contender® The G2 Contender is a single shot, break-open style firearm. To open the G2 Contender, hold the gun with your left hand at the balance point on the forend. (Use right hand if you are left handed).

Using The Correct Ammunition In The G2 Contender® Standard Factory Loaded Cartridges: The G2 Contender Pistol and Rifle is designed for the use of interchangeable barrels which are chambered for a variety of factory loaded cartridges. The proper cartridge for each barrel is clearly marked by its standard industry designation on the top left side of each barrel.
.410 Gauge Shotshells And 45 COLT Ammunition in the G2 Contender Pistol. Internal choke models are offered in 45 COLT/.410 GA allowing the use of standard 3" .410 GA shotshells. IN ALL INSTANCES, THE CHOKE TUBE MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE STANDARD BALL AMMUNITION, RIFLED SLUGS OR BUCKSHOT OF THE APPROPRIATE CALIBER IS TO BE USED. After heavy use of shot cartridges, clean the barrel and choke tube with a tight fitting stiff wire brush to remove any accumulation of lead.
Loading and Firing the G2 Contender® Pistol or Rifle Do not assume that a familiarity with other firearms has equipped you with a knowledge of “safe handling”, as these words apply to the G2 Contender. Each gun is different. Although the G2 Contender is equipped with an automatic hammer block, the user is responsible for practicing “safe gun handling” at all times. Failure to do so can cause injury and/or death to the shooter or bystanders and damage to property.
Hammer in “At Rest” Position. With Manual Firing Pin Selector in the Neutral Position. Hammer in “Cocked” Position - Aim at target With the manual firing pin selector turned to the fire position required by the cartridge you are firing (rimfire or centerfire) If the G2 Contender is dropped or struck a hard blow, the following steps should be taken.
Should You Decide NOT To Fire The G2 Contender® After The Hammer Has Been Cocked, Then You Must Take The Following Steps: If, after cocking the G2 Contender, the shooter decides not to fire, the following procedure must be followed: 1. Set the manual firing pin selector to the neutral position. 2. Keeping the G2 Contender pointed in a safe direction, lower the gun. 3. Firmly hold your thumb on the hammer so that it cannot drop freely. Pull the trigger rearward only long enough to disengage the hammer.
5. Open the action - remove the cartridge. The hammer is held away from the firing pin by the automatic hammer block Rifle Changing G2 Contender® Barrels First, open the action to ensure that the gun is not loaded. Then close the action. With the action closed, take a suitable screw driver and remove the forend screws. Then remove the forend. Open the action to relieve the tension on the hinge pin. With a suitable punch or screw driver, gently tap out the hinge pin.
Pistol Rifle The G2 Contender® Trigger Always make sure the chamber of your G2 Contender is unloaded prior to adjusting the trigger for over-travel. Working on a loaded firearm could result in an accidental discharge which can result in injury and/or death to the shooter or bystanders and damage to property. G2 Contender triggers are factory set. No adjustment should be required or attempted.
G2 Contender trigger stop screw: A trigger stop screw is located in the trigger guard directly behind the trigger. Extremely helpful for target shooting, this adjustment should be set on minimum. In other words, turn the adjustment until the trigger will not release, then gradually back off the adjustment until the trigger just releases. An extra quarter turn affords the proper setting and insures that the trigger will release every time.

Using a suitable screw driver, remove the 3 screws in the grip cap, and in turn remove the grip cap. 6. Insert a 3/16" allen wrench into the socket head of the grip draw bolt and remove the grip bolt. Slide the grip off 7. No further disassembly is recommended or required. Limited Lifetime Warranty Thompson/Center Arms provides a warranty for all factory finished firearms for the Lifetime of the original consumer purchaser. Any such firearms or part thereof returned, postage paid, to the factory at Rochester, New Hampshire 03867, will be repaired or replaced to our commercial standards free of charge , and returned to the consumer purchaser postage prepaid.

There is no other way to ensure that the work will be done by a competent staff or trained technicians. We strongly recommend that G2 Contenders needing repair be returned to the factory.
