Manual
PRIMING THE
T/C ENCORE
™
MUZZLELOADER
WARNING: DO NOT PRIME THE FIREARM UNTIL YOU
ARE ACTUALLY READY TO FIRE AND YOU HAVE
DOUBLE CHECKED TO ENSURE THAT THE RAMROD
HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BORE. THOMP-
SON/CENTER DOES NOT RECOMMEND PRIMING THE
FIREARM UNTIL THE INSTANT BEFORE FIRING. CARRYING
A CHARGED, PRIMED ENCORE CAN BE DANGEROUS. AC-
CIDENTAL DISCHARGE IS A CONSTANT HAZARD WHICH, IF
IT OCCURS, CAN CAUSE INJURY AND/OR DEATH TO THE
SHOOTER OR BYSTANDERS AND DAMAGE TO PROPERTY.
THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO GUARD AGAINST AN ACCIDEN-
TAL DISCHARGE IS TO CARRY YOUR T/C ENCORE
UNPRIMED, WITH THE HAMMER IN THE "AT REST" POSI-
TION AND THE MUZZLE POINTED DOWNRANGE AWAY
FROM YOURSELF, BYSTANDERS OR PROPERTY.
If you have followed the preceding instructions in this manual,
your firearm will now be charged with Black Powder or an
approved Black Powder substitute such as Pyrodex and a pro-
jectile will be firmly seated against the powder charge. The ram-
rod will be returned to the thimbles under the barrel and your
ramrod will be marked to the exact seating depth of the
powder/projectile combination that you are using - allowing you
to ensure that each future projectile is also seated to the same
depth in the bore.
The Thompson/Center Encore muzzleloading rifle uses a #209
primer for ignition.
With the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, open the action by
pivoting the trigger guard down and forward - then tipping the
barrel down and open.
WHEN YOU ARE READY TO FIRE YOUR ENCORE, OPEN
THE BARREL AND PRIME IT AS SHOWN HERE (Figure 8).
