GENERALDESCRIPTION ASSEMBLY The STINGRAY II is a waterproof WFÆR/VLF discriminator, which provides three basic operating modes. It can be used as an ALL METAL detector, as a TR discriminator, or as a Motion based discrimi nator. It is capable ofprovidingMineral Free operation in anyørvironment, ifadjustedconectly. The STINGRAY II can be used on land, in the surf, or underwater to depths of 200 feet. It is perhaps the most versati le of al I waterproof metal detectors yetmade.
POLE MOUNT - Refer to Figure 2 l. The control housing is alreadymounted on the pole, as shipped from the factory, so all that is required is to wind the cablé a¡ound the fole as shown, using the two velcro süaps to hold the cable tight against the ole. f 2. The preferred configuration for land use is to leave the control FIGTIRE3 COI{VERSION up.

The non-motion modes (TR DISC and ALL METAL) are retuned back to a tions. 2. MODE CONTROL. This switch selcts the desired operatingmode ofthe STINGRAy II.
.VOLUME. TUI{ING IN THEALL METAL MODE This control adjusts the volume of the loudest sounds to be comfortable to the user. If the loudest sounds are too loud, you may become wearyofusingthe detector, and ifthey are not loudenough, you may miss the deepest targets. 7. MOTION DISC SENSITTVITY. This contol should be set as high æ poss ible (clockwise direction) while still allowing quiet operation.
l. Put the On/Offconüol to fast and the Mode select switch to ALL METAL. Hold the search coi I about two feet above the ground and rapidly lowerthe search coilto abouttwo inches abovetheground. 2. Ifthere is no change in the Threshold sound, oronly a sli ght positive increase, the detector is properlytuned. Ifthe sound decreases, the gound adjustshouldbetumed slightlyclockwise (inthe direction labeledMax.) Ifthe sound increases dramatically, tum the gound adjust slightly counterclockwise. 3.

The easiestwayto pinpoint formost people will be to switch to the ALL METAL mode, s ince no-motion is required. To p i npo int a target that depth. doesn't saturate the audio, j ust move the coil forward and back, and si de to side until you get the strongest sound. The target will be d irectly below the coil center.
3. Cable is hard wired into sea¡ch coil, terminal sn ap from the battery hol der. The sTINGRAY II takes g AA s ize alkaline batteries. Make sure the terminal polarity snaps fit tightlyto the polarity snaps ofthe battery holder. A loose connection ma! cause the 4. detector to fail to respond or act erratic when operating. Also make certain that you follow the polarity indi cators on both the battery hol der as well as the batteries themselves.
