5. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Substrate Preparation
For best results, flooring material, room and adhesive should be kept at a
minimum of 65°F for 48 hours before, during and 24 hours after installation.
Remove all wax, grease, oil, paint, dust, curing compounds and other surface
contaminants. Plywood should be installed according to American Plywood
Association guidelines. Plywood subfloor surfaces should be well nailed at all
edges and through center. Raised edges should be sanded smooth. Fill all cracks
and depressions with a quality patching compound. Sand smooth and vacuum to
remove dust. On hardwood and wood parquet floors, the installation of plywood or
fiber-cement underlayment is required.
All concrete substrates must be tested for moisture and pH prior to flooring
installation. Install flooring with TEC
®
Vinyl Composition Tile Adhesive over
concrete with a moisture vapor emission rate up to 5 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.
(2.26 kg/ 93 m²) per 24 hours when tested in accordance with ASTM F1869. Test
for pH in accordance with ASTM F710. Range of 7-9 is required.
Application
Refer to flooring manufacturers installation guidelines for proper application
instructions, including trowel size and approximate coverage. TEC
®
Vinyl
Composition Tile Adhesive has an approximate working time of 1-24 hours,
depending on trowel size, floor porosity, temperature and humidity. Apply adhesive
and allow to dry to a clear, transparent film - normally 30-45 minutes before
applying tiles. However, tiles may be installed up to 24 hours after spreading
adhesive (dependent on trowel notch selected). Drying time will vary depending
upon the temperature and humidity. Check readiness by lightly pressing a finger
on adhesive. If there is no adhesive transfer to finger when lightly touched, tiles
may be set by pressing down firmly. Keep the adhesive film free of dust and dirt.
