Step 1: Remove the EPM Protective Label 1 Remove the protective label from the Enhanced Power Magazine (EPM) contacts before installing the EPM battery in the X3 ECD. 2 Inspect the contacts to ensure the adhesive residue has been removed.
Step 2: Place the CAM-Lock™ Safety in the SAFE Postion The ambidextrous safety can be operated from either side. Simply shift the safety to the down (SAFE) position.
Step 3: Remove the Inert Cartridges Use the left hand to unload cartridges beginning with the rightmost bay. By unloading from right to left (or left to right if the right hand is used) it is less likely the operator will place fingers in front of the blast doors of loaded cartridges. To unload the Inert Cartridges, follow these steps: 1 Press the cartridge release button. 2 Firmly pull the cartridge out of the bay by pulling on the upper tab and lower tab of the cartridge.
Step 4: Install the EPM Install the new EPM battery and insure that the EPM is fully inserted into the X3 ECD. Apply sufficient force to ensure the EPM is fully seated and the tabs on the sides of the EPM are properly engaged.
Step 5: Configure the Deployment Mode The X3 ECD can be configured for two different deployment modes, Semi-Automatic and Manual. To select the deployment mode, follow these steps: 1 Press the selector switch ( ) to activate the MAIN MENU. 2 Press the right ARC ( ) switch until you are at the SYSTEM option in the main menu. 3 Press the left ARC switch. 4 Use the left ARC switch to scroll to the option you want to use. 5 Press the selector switch to go to the previous menu.
Step 6: Configure the Language Be careful in selecting the language. If the CID suddenly becomes unrecognizable, the wrong language may have been chosen. Selecting any language other than ENGLISH US will result in all measurements displayed in metric. To set the X3 ECD’s language, follow these steps: 1 Press and hold the selector switch ( ) until the MAIN MENU displays. 2 Press the right ARC switch ( ) until you are at the LANGUAGE menu. 3 Press the left ARC switch.
Step 7: Configure the Flashlight The X3 ECD’s LED flashlight can be turned on or off, or set to adjust its intensity depending on the ambient light (automatic). To set up this feature, follow these steps: 1 Press and hold the selector switch ( ) until the MAIN MENU displays. 2 Press the left ARC ( ) switch. 3 Press the left ARC switch again to scroll through the options. 4 Press the selector switch to return to the MAIN MENU. 5 You can set the other options.
Step 8: Configure the Top/Bottom Lasers To set up this feature, follow these steps: 1 Press and hold the selector switch ( ) until the MAIN MENU displays. The SIGHTING option should already be selected. 2 Press the left ARC switch ( ) to open the SIGHTING MENU. 3 Press the right ARC switch. 4 Press the left ARC switch to select the option you want to use. 5 Press the selector switch to return to the MAIN MENU. 6 You can set the other options.
Step 9: Remove Smart Cartridge Shipping Cover Smart Cartridges (sold separately) are shipped with a shipping cover in place. Remove these covers before attempting to load a cartridge into an X3 ECD. To remove the shipping cover, follow these steps: 1 Hold the cartridge over a table or other close by surface so the cartridge will not fall to the floor if it is dropped. 2 Hold the cartridge so the blast doors are facing away from you and others.
Step 10: Load the Smart Cartridges Before installing and using a Smart Cartridge, inspect the blast doors for cracks. The inspection should include checking the break seam running down the center and both sides of the front of the blast door. If the blast doors are cracked, remove the Smart Cartridge from service. Also, inspect the ARC deflector metalized labels. Over time, the labels may show signs of wear. This is normal.
To load the Smart Cartridges, follow these steps: 1 Make sure the protective shipping cover is removed from the Smart Cartridge. 2 Keeping your hand away from the blast doors, place the Smart Cartridge into the cartridge bay until an audible click is heard. 3 Verify that the cartridge is secure by pulling on the tabs on the lower and upper part of the cartridge.
Step 11: Trigger Switch Unlike a firearm trigger, the X3 trigger switch is a momentary electrical switch. The trigger is operational only when the CAM-Lock safety is in the up (ARMED) position. Pulling and releasing the trigger switch will deploy the first selected cartridge and result in an approximate five-second discharge unless the safety is shifted to the down (SAFE) position.
Step 12: ARC Switch Pressing the ambidextrous Arc display/Re-energize/Cartridge advance (ARC) switch supplies additional energy to the target. The ARC switch is also used to employ a drive-stun or a Warning Arc display, select cartridges, and select menu items during system programming and option selection. If you need to select a specific cartridge (e.g.
Step 13: Spark Test The spark test should be performed with cartridges loaded in the ECD. Use inert cartridges for spark tests if they are available. To perform a spark test, follow these steps: 1 Point the ECD in a safe direction. 2 Place top rail of the X3 ECD in the palm of your secondary hand so you can grip the top rail and your thumb can reach the ARC switch, while the remainder of your secondary hand and fingers are away from the front of the ECD.
Quick Reference: Display Icons The central information display (CID) provides information about the ECD’s battery charge status, cartridge bay status, cartridge type, connection status, cycle progress, and other information. When you shift the Cam-Lock safety to the up (ARMED) position, the CID will light up and display information.
