How to use this manual How to use this manual The Tacx Cosmos is a trainings device that in combination with the bicycle and a personal computer is used to improve the physical condition. Before using the Cosmos follow the mounting instructions in the proper sequence. Use the Cosmos exclusively for purposes mentioned in the manual. If the Cosmos is used for purposes other than those mentioned in the manual, a save use of the device can not be guaranteed.

Cosmos ergotrainer 1 COSMOS ERGOTRAINER The Cosmos is the ultimate training machine - a super power trainer for professional cyclists and amateurs who want to get the most out of their training, scientifically. This high-end ergo trainer is equipped with the sensational motor brake, which enables extra arduous training. For example, with a low cadence, you can get more than 1,000 Watts of braking power.
Instructions for the Cosmos Computer 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE COSMOS COMPUTER General information When the word 'Key' is used in the manual this means a button on the Cosmos computer must be pushed. When the word 'link' is used this means you must push a virtual button that's visible on the LCD display of the Cosmos computer.
Instructions for the Cosmos Computer Main Menu The main menu is the screen that is displayed when Cosmos is first turned on. On the left side of the screen is an illustration with information about the selected training session. Under this is indicated which user & opponent(s) are selected. On the right side are links to the next screens.
Info 3 INFO This screen holds technical information about the Cosmos computer & motorbreak. In this screen you can not use the visible links or make changes. To exit this screen push CANCEL or ENTER.
Setup 4 SETUP This field contains the system settings. The actual settings are located on the blue section of the button. Calibration Setup the calibration value of the electromagnetic brake unit and the motorbrake. Setting the calibration value of brake unit causes differences in brake operation to occur under the following circumstances: Changing the roller pressure against the tyre, changing the magnetic forces and differences in mains voltage.
Users 5 USERS Users can enter various teams in the Cosmos. Each user has his/ her own identity card with personal data, which can be opened from this field. The Tacx Team has ten factory-installed cyclists. Left is the ID card from the selected user, right in the function Select This screen consists of two menus. Left is TEAMS & right is USERS (that are included within the selected team). The team list will be selected already.
Users Input letters & numbers with cursor UP & DOWN. A name can have a maximum length of 16 characters. By pressing Cursor RIGHT you can move one letter further. With Cursor LEFT you can delete the previous character & move back one space. To save the name press ENTER. Confirm your name by pressing ENTER. Use the same method to input your date of birth, weight (including your bike), Edit Open the screen with the TEAM menu. Choose a team that you would like to edit by using the UP & DOWN cursor buttons.
Settings 6 SETTINGS After having selected the program and eventually the opponent(s), you can use this field to determine the program settings. You can add many variations for cycling the course. Using the ENTER button, you can browse through the various options and choose the desired settings, which appear on the blue section of the button. Info per Chose from Total trip or Route. Display mode You can choose between two different displays by selecting DISPLAY INFO MINIMUM of MAXIMUM.
Opponents 7 OPPONENTS After selecting the course, you can select opponents against whom you want to race. This function is only available in a SLOPE - DISTANCE program. You can change the cycling speed of every opponent, by adjusting the percentage (% time). The opponents are automatically ranked in order of fastest times. Throughout the program, the cyclists are recognisable by their colours. During composition of the program, they will be visible in the coloured box adjacent to their names.
Training 8 TRAINING In this field you can select, alter, set or delete a course and change a training program. There is a number of pre-programmed training programs. You can also change or delete these programs. If you want to train based on time or distance without a program, you can chose for FREE CYCLING. Then it is possible to adjust power (watt), gradient (slope) or heart rate manually. Above is an example of a selected training session.
Training New (program) Here you can create a training program. You enter this section by selecting program TYPE. Make a choice between SLOPE, POWER or HEART RATE. Confirm your choice by pressing ENTER following this make your second choice between TIME & DISTANCE. When you have confirmed this choice you are taken to the Training Program creation screen. You're first placed in the ROUTE section.
Training Edit Brings you inside the program TYPE menu. After you have made a selection & pressed ENTER you move to the program list. Select a program, Press ENTER again & the program editing screen will open with you placed on the first route of the selected program. You can make changes to the route in the same way as creating a new route. When you press CLOSE the ENTER NAME dialog box will open & you must give the changed program a new name. Delete This allows you to delete the training program.
Training with the Cosmos 9 TRAINING WITH THE COSMOS Start When you are satisfied with the composition of the terrain, the course, the opponents and the settings, press the START button. In display appears a countdown counter. When the countdown meter shows zero, you can start cycling. In any case, this is the starting signal for the opponents. The program will only start when the user's speed is 0 km/u and the heart rate is being received constantly.
Training with the Cosmos Free cycling Besides programs for cycling, free training is also possible. You can set the routes manually. Moreover, at the end of the training you can save the results of the program you rode. During free training, the diagram will be different than during a riding program. At the top right there will be a settings menu in which the route can be changed using the ARROW KEYS.
Training with the Cosmos Traininginformation during a training You can change the settings while cycling: training information per, training information, camera, sound (on or off), heart-rate signal (on or off), and the different bars of the graph. Press ENTER to activate the buttons with settings. These buttons will appear on the current training screen. Using the arrow and ENTER keys, you can make the necessary editing changes. The cascade field will disappear after five seconds if no button is pushed.
Training with the Cosmos Selected display info There are four training information panels: SPD, WATT, CAD & HF . The selected panel will have a light blue colour. Visible in the graphic display is an axis scale (left) and a graphic curve of the selected panel. By pressing cursor LEFT & RIGHT you can navigate horizontally through the various panels. The graphic display will change as you do this. When you select a panel extra training information will become visible.
Fortius Software 10 FORTIUS SOFTWARE The Cosmos comes with Fortius pre-set menus and Analyser software. This allows you easily to set the training programs and user data. Via the USB connection, you can send your data to the Cosmos computer so that you can run your training programs on your stand-alone, wherever you want. The cosmos computer can be act as a USB interface & connect your motorbreak to your PC! Do not plug in the USB cable, before installing the i-Magic software.
Operation Fortius Software 11 OPERATION FORTIUS SOFTWARE The button selected will take on a darker colour. You activate the function by pressing the ENTER key. CLOSE saves the setting, and returns to the previous screen. Use the keyboard to enter any requested data. Main Menu The main menu is the first screen that you see. From here you can open the Cosmos screen, Start de Analyzer Software or edit the global settings.
Fortius Info 12 FORTIUS INFO Left above in the info box is information regarding the installed software & connected equipment. • Version number & Build date Fortius Software (menus) • Serial number & Software version motorbrake (if connected) • Serial number & Software version Cosmos computer (if connected) • SYS Driver version Help Offers the manual pdf format. To open the help function you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. The program can be installed from the CD-Rom.
System Options 13 SYSTEM OPTIONS This field contains the system settings. The actual settings are located on the blue section of the button. In the upper left side of the screen appears an info dialogue with information about the selected button. Language Choice of six languages: Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Distance/ Speed Choice of km, km/h (default) or miles, mp/h. Weight Choice of kg (default) or lbs.
Cosmos fields 14 COSMOS FIELDS Once in the Cosmos screen it's possible for you to create or modify users & teams. This screen gives you access to further options to import & export information & data from the Cosmos computer. To the left you can see the selected user & team. If there is a working connection via the USB port to the Cosmos then this information is visible. To the right are some buttons. COSMOS -> PC en PC -> COSMOS these can only be used if a Cosmos computer is connected.
Cosmos fields Cosmos -> PC In this screen you can import information from the Cosmos to the PC. Decide which information you want to import: USER OPTIONS, TRAINING PROGRAMS or SCORES. You can also clear the memory of the Cosmos computer from this screen. On the right is a menu & to the left is a percentage sign which indicates how much memory is free in the Cosmos computer.
Cosmos fields Selection screens Cosmos -> PC In the selection screens USERS, TRAINING PROGRAMS & SCORES (results?) you can select which information you want to transfer to the PC from the Cosmos. You can also select information that you want to delete from the Cosmos memory To the left are the TEAM & USER DETAILS in the memory of the Cosmos. To the right is a menu where you can enter the information you want to transfer. To the lower right are the selection buttons.
Cosmos fields Selection screens PC -> Cosmos In the selection screens USERS, TRAINING PROGRAMS & RESULTS; you can select which data you want to transfer from the PC to the Cosmos. To the left is a menu with Program TYPE, this includes PROGRAMS that are stored in the Cosmos with associated illustrations. To the right is a selection list where you place the programs that you want to transfer to the Cosmos. To the bottom right are some function buttons. Use the mouse to select the data in the menu.
Cosmos fields Training program In this field you can select, alter, set or delete a course and change a training program. There is a number of pre-programmed training programs. You can also change or delete these programs. This screen includes menus for PROGRAM TYPES and PROGRAMS. In the program list is two columns that include the time or distance of the program. To the right are some buttons that you can access by using the mouse.
Cosmos fields New (program) After choosing a PROGRAM TYPE, you should select a program. In this field it is also possible to create a new program or alter an existing program. Now you can enter the name and number of routes of the program. Via the setup menu you can setup your program. You can enter values in the area by clicking on the triangles. The selected route is indicated by three silver balls in the illustration. Via the button INSERT ROUTE, you can insert a new route, after the selected route.
Cosmos fields User Options Users can enter various teams in the Fortius. Each user has his or her own identity card with personal data, which can be opened from this field. The user can chose for a clothing set. The Tacx Team has ten factory-installed cyclists. The field consists of menu for TEAMS and USERS (which belong in the team). At the right side the buttons which are only controllable with the mouse: After you enter the Team menu, you can scroll with the arrow keys.
Cosmos fields ID Card The ID card contains personal data about users. The card is unique in that it automatically calculates the heart rate zones when the date of birth is entered. There is also space for an e-mail address and notes. At the top left of the ID card is the team, user name and weight (combined body and bicycle weight). In the field underneath are the other data. At the right side a picture of the team shirt Fill in the ID card using the mouse and/or the PC keyboard.
Online Update 15 ONLINE UPDATE You can update your version of the Fortius Software, Cosmos computer firmware & the motor brake firmware via the ONLINE UPDATE link which you can find via the Windows start menu. This service is only possible if your computer is connected to the internet. If your computer is not connected to the internet, you can still get the updates by using a other internet enabled PC & navigating to www.tacx.com & then Support -> Download Software -> Fortius.
