Avoiding Lexical Ambiguities
When a word has two meanings, use a compound instead of a simple word.
Example UD
key = touche
activation key = clef d'activation
Instead of: Without these we cannot give you a key.
MT Output: Sans ces derniers nous ne pouvons pas vous donner une touche.
Use: Without these we cannot give you an activation key.
MT Output: Sans ces derniers nous ne pouvons pas vous donner une clef d'activation.
Using Compounds
Coordinated compounds like “the EtherShare and the OPI serial number” are better
translated when the input is “the EtherShare serial number and the OPI serial number”.
Example 1
Instead of: The request must include both the EtherShare and the OPI serial number.
MT Output: La demande doit inclure EtherShare et le numéro de série d'OPI.
Use: The request must include both the EtherShare serial number and the OPI serial
number
MT Output: La demande doit inclure le numéro de série d'EtherShare et le numéro de série
d'OPI.
