In some cases, Auto-Protect might warn you about a
virus-like activity that you know are not the work of a
virus. If you perform such an activity and want to avoid
the warning, you can turn off Auto-Protect.
If you have set a password for settings, Norton Internet
Security asks you for the password before you can view
or change the settings.

When you turn off Auto-Protect, SONAR Protection
and Download Intelligence are also turned off.
To turn off Auto-Protect temporarily

In the Norton Internet Security main window, click
Settings.

In the Settings window, in the left pane, click Real
Time Protection.

In the Auto-Protect row, move the On/Off switch
to the right to the Off position.

In the Settings window, click Apply.

In the dialog box that appears, in the Select the
duration drop-down list, select how long you want
to turn off Auto-Protect, and then click OK.
To turn on Auto-Protect temporarily

In the Norton Internet Security main window, click
Settings.

In the Settings window, in the left pane, click Real
Time Protection.

In the Auto-Protect row, move the On/Off switch
to the left to the On position.

Turning off or turning on spam filtering
With the increase in usage of email, many users receive
a number of unwanted and unsolicited commercial
email messages known as spam. Not only does spam
make it difficult to identify valid email messages, but
some spam contains offensive messages and images.
