and easily. Users simply browse, select, and restore the
individual item for recovery in the database. It’s that easy.
Symantec Backup Exec also provides continuous data
protection, which complements Granular Recovery
Technology by providing reliable, fast, disk-based data
protection that continuously backs up transaction logs
and assigns user-designated recovery points to eliminate
the daily backup window. In addition, each recovery point
can be easily opened and browsed for restoration of a
specific document or email in just minutes. Continuous
data protection provides protection for Windows based
file servers, Microsoft Exchange servers, SQL servers and
desktops, and laptops. And, with Symantec Backup Exec
Retrieve for file servers, end users can quickly retrieve their
own files—without IT intervention.

backup performance, exclusive use of Volume Shadow
Copy Service (VSS) snapshots, and protection for failover
clustering. Plus, Symantec Backup Exec provides support
for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Core Server through
the Backup Exec Agent for Windows Systems, keeping
business-critical Windows data protected and helping to
ensure that it can be easily recovered.

Enterprise Vault. Symantec Backup Exec now delivers
full application protection of Enterprise Vault, including
Directory Database, Partitions/Vault Stores, and Indexes,

Enhanced! Granular recovery for Exchange and
continuous protection, including support for Exchange
2007—Granular Recovery Technology and continuous
protection eliminate the daily backup window for Exchange
backup jobs and enable recovery of individual mailboxes,
messages, and folders in seconds from a single backup.
Exchange “mailbox or MAPI” backups are no longer
required to restore granular Exchange data—so the
number of backups and time required to protect Exchange
is significantly lower. Plus, Granular Recovery Technology
enabled backups can now be easily stored to a remote or
removable disk drive or off to a storage area network (SAN)
to further optimize your backup and recovery strategy.
Enhanced! Agent for Microsoft Active Directory—The
enhanced agent enables fast recovery of user accounts,
printers, organizational units (OUs), down to the individual
attribute level without Domain Controller reboots, and it
now supports granular recovery of Microsoft Server 2008
Active Directory Domain Services objects as well.
New! Symantec Endpoint Protection integration—Now
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 users can view up-to-
the-minute security threat reports through the Symantec
Backup Exec console, and they can set proactive backup
jobs to be automatically triggered to run based on a
Symantec ThreatCon Indicator level. Proactive ThreatCon
backups help ensure that an “uninfected” copy of
business data is backed up and can be recovered in the
event of a virus or malware attack.
