CHECKING THE AIR CLEANER
If the air cleaner is excessively dirty, engine performance and fuel consumption will be affected.
Periodical cleaning is critical. The following is the procedure.
1. Remove the seat.
2. Remove the air cleaner cover screws and cover.
3. Remove the air cleaner element from the air cleaner case.
4. Check if the element is clean or not. Remove the dust from the surface of the element.
Replace with a new one if the element is excessively dirty or damaged.
5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Procedures for cleaning air cleaner element:
Gasoline or low flash point solvents are highly flammable and must not be used to clean the element.
Don’t keep too much oil in the element, or the engine performance will be affected.
CAUTION:
Dust deposit is one of the major causes of reducing output horsepower and increasing fuel
consumption.
Change the air cleaner element or clean it more frequently to prolong the engine’s service life if
the motorcycle is driven on dusty roads very often.
If air cleaner is installed improperly, dust will be absorbed into cylinders, which may cause a
premature wear and reducing output power and engine life.
Be careful not to soak the air cleaner when washing the motorcycle. Otherwise, it will cause
engine hard to start.
