Linux comes with a number of tools for systemanalysis and monitoring.See Chap-

Each of the following scenariosbegins with a header describingthe problem followed
by a paragraph or two offering suggestedsolutions,available references for more

A.2.2 Installation Problems
Installationproblems are situationswhen a machine fails to install. It may fail entirely
or it may not be able to startthe graphical installer. This sectionhighlightssome of
the typical problems you may run into, and offerspossiblesolutionsor workarounds
for thesekinds of situations.
Checking Media
If you encounterany problems using the openSUSEinstallationmedia, checkthe in-
tegrityof your installationmedia. Boot from the media and chooseCheckInstallation
Media from the boot menu. In a running system,start YaST and choose Software>
Media Check. Media problemsare more probablewith the media you burn yourself.
Burning the media at a low speed(4x) helpsavoiding problems.
Hardware Information
Display detectedhardware and technical data using Hardware> HardwareInformation
in YaST. Clickany node of the tree for more information about a device.This module
is especiallyuseful, when submittinga support requestfor which you need information
about your hardware.
Save the displayedhardware information to a file by clickingSave to File. Selectthe
desired directoryand filenamethen click Save to create the file.
No BootableDVD Drive Available
If your computerdoes not contain a bootableDVD-ROM drive or if the one you have
is not supportedby Linux, there are several options you can install your machine
withouta built-in DVD drive:
