5 LibreOffice Writer
LibreOfficeWriteris a full-featured word processorwith page and text-formatting
capabilities. Its interface is similar to interfacesfor other major word processors.It
also includessome features that are usually found only in expensivedesktoppublish-
ing applications.Many of the LibreOffice Writer features apply also to other LibreOffice
modules.
5.1 Whatis Newin Writer
Belowis a list of newfeatures:
Increased Document Protection
LibreOffice Writer and Calc now allow two levels of documentprotection.You can
normally save a documentwith a password that prevents unauthorizedusers
from reading the content,but also set a password to protect a documentagainst
unwantedchanges.This way, you can make the contentof a documentavailable
for reading to a selectedgroup of people, whiledifferent group can both read
and edit it. This behavioris now compatiblewith Microsoft Word and Excel file
protection.
ResettingText to the Default Language
You can now resetthe language of the text back to the defaultlanguage using
the languagestatusbar or with Tools > Language.
Word CountDialog Enhanced
LibreOffice Writer now displays the number of charactersboth with and without
spaces.
New Title Page Option
Right-clickan open documentand selectTitle Page to insert a new title page of
the documentwith different formatting options.The documentcan contain sev-
eral title pages.You can, for example, specify to resetnumberingsafter each in-
serted title page.
5.2 Creating a NewDocument
There are two waysto createa new document:
