, start YaST and selectSystem > System Backup.
2 Createa backup profile holding all detailsneededfor the backup, filenameof
the archive file, scope,and type of the backup:
2a Select Profile Management> Add.
2b Entera name for the archive.
2c Enterthepathto thelocationof thebackup if you wantto keepa
local backup. For your backup to be archived on a networkserver
(via NFS), enterthe IP address or name of the serverand the direc-
tory that shouldhold your archive.
2d Determine the archivetypeand clickNext.
2e Determine the backup optionsto use,suchas whetherfilesnot be-
longing to any package should be backed up and whethera list of
files should be displayedprior to creating the archive.Also determine
whetherchanged files should be identified using the time-consuming
MD5 mechanism.
Use Expertto entera dialog for the backup of entire hard disk areas.
Currently,this option only appliesto the Ext2 file system.
2f Finally, set the search constraintsto exclude certainsystemareas
from the backup area thatdo not needto be backed up, suchas lock
files or cachefiles. Add, edit, or deleteitems until your needs are
met and leavewith OK.
3 Once you have finishedthe profile settings,you can startthe backup right
away with CreateBackup or configure automaticbackup. It is also possible
to create otherprofiles tailored for variousotherpurposes.
To configure automaticbackup for a given profile, proceedas follows:
1 SelectAutomaticBackupfrom the Profile Managementmenu.
2 SelectStart BackupAutomatically.
3 Determinethebackup frequency. Choosedaily, weekly, or monthly.
4 Determine the backup starttime.Thesesettingsdependon the backup fre-
quency selected.
5 Decidewhetherto keepold backups and how many shouldbe kept.To receive
an automatically generatedstatus messageof the backup process, check
Send Summary Mail to Userroot.
