To manually start Apache using the shell, run rcapache2 start.
Procedure 28.3
Checking if Apache is Running
If you do not receive error messages when starting Apache, this usually indicates that
the Web server is running. To test this:
1
Start a browser and open http://localhost/.
If Apache is up and running, you get a test page stating “It works!”.
2
If you do not see this page, refer to Section 28.8, “Troubleshooting” (page 482).
Now that the Web server is running, you can add your own documents, adjust the con-
guration according to your needs, or add functionality by installing modules.
28.2 Conguring Apache
openSUSE offers two conguration options:
• Conguring Apache Manually (page 449)
• Conguring Apache with YaST (page 454)
Manual conguration offers a higher level of detail, but lacks the convenience of the
YaST GUI.
