SUPERWINCH Synthetic
Serious About Synthetic
At Superwinch, we love synthetic. The Synthetic rope used by Superwinch is a Dyneema®
product, the strongest fibre in the world. Great care and caution is taken in sourcing of synthetic
as the Superwinch Lab has found most synthetic on the market today to be unfit for winching.
Users can trust their synthetic only if they trust the sourcing choices their manufacturer made.
Is synthetic right for you? The benefits of synthetic rope are many: lightweight, almost no retained
energy – falls to the ground under failure, easy on the hands and it even floats. The downsides
are less abrasion resistance, susceptible to heat build up (an issue for common, non-Superwinch
winches with a brake in the drum). Superwinch sells synthetic into each market we serve from
trailers to off-road to military and industrial work.

TALON Series
Dyneema®
During the Superwinch Lab testing of synthetic rope,
Superwinch discovered the rope puts a very different
strain on drums compared to wire cable. Where the wire will
layer on top of layer, synthetic ropes wants to
dive between layers. The result is broken cast aluminum
drums. That’s why Superwinch developed special reinforced
steel drums on our Talon,Terra and select S series winches.
Only winches from these series are approved for both wire and
synthetic. Updating older winches to synthetic is not
recommended as the unique forces synthetic ropes put
on drums goes beyond their intended capacities.
