Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 1 Introduction 1-1 Overview Supermicro’s slim, space-saving Mini ITX Box chassis design (7.68" x 2.68" x 7.68") is a high-performance solution ideal for a variety of embedded applications. It has optimal thermal dissipation using a cooling fan and side venting holes. It features a wall-mount bracket and a VESA bracket for space-saving applications. The system uses a 60W or 80W power adapter cord or an optional 60W or 80W DC to ATX power converter board.

SC101i Chassis Manual Power Cable and AC Adapter Warning! When installing the product, use the provided or designated connection cables, power cables and AC adaptors. Using any other cables and adaptors could cause a malfunction or a fire. Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law prohibits the use of UL or CSA -certified cables (that have UL/CSA shown on the code) for any other electrical devices than products designated by Supermicro only.

Power Button and Hard Drive Activity LED The SC101i front panel features a power button that displays a multicolored LED. The colors indicate server activity. LED colors: • • • blue – Power on red – Power off white – HDD activity The power switch applies or removes power from the power supply to the server system.

Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance Chapter 5 Chassis Setup and Maintenance 5-1 Overview This chapter covers the steps required to install or replace components in the chassis. The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver. Review the warnings and precautions listed in the manual before setting up or servicing this chassis.

Remove the two side screws that hold the chassis cover in place and set these aside for later use. 3. Slide the cover sideways as illlustrated above to release the front and rear cover hooks from the chassis. 4. Lift the cover up and off the chassis.
Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance 5-4 Installing the Motherboard Note: If you purchased a power converter board, install it before installing the motherboard. The procedure is in section 5-8. 1. Review the documentation that came with your motherboard. Become familiar with component placement, requirements, precautions, and cable connections. 2. Remove the chassis cover. 3. If installed, remove the hard drive tray by removing the two screws that secure it to the chassis bracket. 4.

Do not exceed eight inch-pounds of torque when tightening down the motherboard. 7. Connect the cables to the motherboard as needed. 8. Replace the drive tray support bracket and the drive tray. 9. Reinstall the chassis cover and power up the system.
Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance 5-5 Installing the Hard Drive The SC101i uses a fixed 2.5" hard drive. It is installed into a mounting tray. Figure 5-4: Installing the Hard Drive Installing the Hard Drive The motherboard should be installed before installing the hard drive. 1. If necessary, power down the system as described in section 5-2 and remove the chassis cover. 2. Remove the two screws securing the hard drive tray to the support bracket and set them aside for later use.
SC101i Chassis Manual 5-6 Replacing the System Fan The SC101i includes a system fan that provides cooling for the chassis. 1. Power down the system as described in section 5-2 and remove the chassis cover. 2. Remove the failed fan power cable from motherboard. 3. Remove the four screws securing the fan to the chassis wall and set these aside for later use. 4. Lift the fan out of the chassis. 5. Align the replacement fan with the holes in the wall of the chassis. 6.
Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance 5-7 Installing Mounting Brackets The chassis includes mounting brackets that allow it to be mounted in any convenient space in the work environment. 1. Power down the system as described in section 5-2. 2. SC101i Chassis Manual 5-8 Installing a Power Converter Board If your motherboard supports simple DC input power, a power cord with an inline power adapter is sufficent. If your motherboard accepts only ATX power, a power converter board is requred For lower power needs, use the 60W converter board. For higher power requrements, use the 80W converter board. Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance The 80W power converter board uses an alternate power input receptacle and interior cable (supplied).
