6. Now,havethefamilymemberslowlywalkawayfromthedogandpasttheBoundaryFlags.Thefamily
membershouldnotinteractwiththedoginanyway.
 a.Ifyourdogdoesnotfollowthefamilymember,praiseandrewardthedogwithatreat.
 b.Ifyourdogmovestowardthefamilymember,allowyourdogtomovetowardtheBoundaryZone.When
yourdogreceivestheStaticCorrectionimmediatelymoveyourdogawayfromtheBoundaryFlagsand
intotheSafeZone.Again,youmayneedtoencourageyourdogtocometoyoubycallingthemand
puttinggentlepressureontheleash.Whenyouareabout10feetawayfromtheBoundaryFlagsstopto
praise and reward your dog with a treat.
7. OncethedogrefusestofollowthefamilymemberacrosstheBoundaryZone,repeatthisprocessusing
anotherfamilymemberasthedistraction.Eachfamilymember,friend,orneighborshouldbetreatedasa
separate distraction.
8. ContinuetrainingwitheachdistractionseparatelyuntilyourdogisconsistentlystayingintheSafeZone.
9.  Turn o the Base Transmitter. 
DonotmoveontoLesson#4untilyourdoghaslearnedtostayintheSafeZoneareawhendistracted.

TheobjectiveofLesson#4istoremovetheleashandallowyourdogfreedomintheSafeZone.Toachievethebest
results,youshouldtrainfor10to15minutesasessionthreetimesaday.Graduallyincreasetheamountoftimeyour
doghasfreedomintheSafeZone.ItisalsoimportantthatyouDONOTleaveyourdogunattendedduringthistime.
1.  Turn on the Base Transmitter. 
2. TurnontheReceiverCollarandbesureyouareontheappropriatecorrectionlevelforyourdog.
3. PlacetheReceiverCollaronyourdog’sneck.
4. Haveanon-metalliccollarandleashhandybutdonot
placethiscollaronyourdog.Ifyourdogrunsthroughthe
SafeZoneduringthetraining,youmayneedtousethe
additional collar and leash to retrieve your dog. 
5. WalkwithyourdogwithinmultipleareasoftheSafeZone.
6.  Praise and reward your dog with several treats. 
7. Graduallymoveawayfromyourdogandoccupyyourself
withataskinyourSafeZone.Afterafewminutes,return
toyourdogandplaywiththem,givingthempraiseanda
treatforstayingwithintheSafeZone.Thiswillhelpthemget
comfortablestayingwithintheSafeZoneandinteracting
with you in a normal manner. 
8.  Turn o the Base Transmitter. 
9. Repeatthisprocesskeepingthesessionsshort.Graduallyincreasethetimeyoustayawayfromyourdog. 
Do not leave your dog unsupervised during this process. 
IfyourdogleavestheSafeZoneyoucanusethetreatstoencourageyourdogtocometoyou.Putthenon-metalliccollar
onthedogandattachtheleash.RemovetheReceiverCollarandbringyourdogbackintotheSafeZone.Ifyourdog
leavestheSafeZone,returntoLesson#2.IfyourdogisleavingtheSafeZonebecauseofadistraction,returntoLesson#3.
YourdogisreadyforLesson#5ifitmakesnoattempttoleavetheSafeZoneunderanycircumstance.
