3. Using the VTL console, load a tape into a virtual drive.
Whilemostrawdeviceutilitiesworkwithtape drives,they cannot,inmostcases,
loadtapes.Evenifsome canmovetapes,youneedtoknowtheexactaddressof
thetapeandthedrive.
4. Attempt to access the device using the raw utility.

1. If the operating system cannot access the device, make sure that physical
storage resources are accessible and in read/write mode.
2. Check the Event Log or syslog (/var/adm/messages) for I/O errors.
I/Oerrormessagesusuallybeginwith
log_scsi_error.
3. Make sure that the adapter driver on the client is certified for use with VTL.

1. If the operating system can access the device, the backup software is causing
the problem. Consult the application documentation and/or application vendor
customer support.
2. Make sure that you have the correct drivers.

and device.
