Agoodruleofthumbformonthlymaintenanceisthatitshouldbedoneeachtimeanentiretonof
pelletsisburnedORoncepermonth,whichevercomesfirst.
VentingPipeCleaning
Lowspotsanddirectionchangesintheventingsystem(suchasteesandelbows)areareasfor
potentialfly‐ashandcreosoteaccumulation.INSPECTtheseareasdiligentlytokeepthe
ventingsysteminsafeoperatingcondition.
Dependingonthespecifictypeofventingsystemyourstoveisconnectedto,
itmaybepossible
toremovetheclean‐outteecoverandsimplyrunapipebrushupthepipetoremoveanyfly‐
ashaccumulation.
Horizontalrunsofpipe,suchasfromtheexhaustconnectiononthestovetothevertical
transition,willaccumulateflyashandshould
beinspectedcarefullyandbrushedclean.
Checktheterminationcaptobecertainitisnotcloggedorrestrictedbyanyfly‐ash
accumulation.
Afterthoroughlycleaningtheventingsystem,resealanydisassembledseamswithhigh
temperaturesilicone(Part#AC‐RTV3)ifapplicabletoyourventingsystem.
Inspectseamsthatwerenotdisassembledtobecertainasmoke‐tightsealisstillbeingmade.
Afterprolongeduse,leaksintheventingsystemcanusuallybefoundbysearchingforfly‐ash
depositsontheoutsideofthepipe.Carefullycheckforleaksintheventingsystem
andseal
themaccordingly.
Althoughmostpelletventingsystemsaredesignedtolastalifetime,pelletfly‐ashcanbe
corrosiveundercertainconditions.Whencleaningyourventingsystem,examinethepipe
carefullyforanysignsofdeteriorationandreplacesectionsthatshowexcessivewear.Itis
unlikelythatthis
willeverbeaconcern,butmaintainingyourventingsysteminsafeoperating
conditioniscrucialtosafestoveoperation.
