providedforaudio-with-pictureapplications
thatrequireaspecificmonitorlevel.The
referenceleveliseasilyconfiguredbytak-
inganelectronic“snapshot”oftheposition
oftherotarylevelcontrol.
Onebuttoncontrolswhichmonitoroutput,
AorB,isactive.Foroperatorconvenience,
thedimfunctionallowsthemonitoroutput
leveltobereducedbyafixeddBamount.
Thedimlevelisconfiguredfromfouravail-
ablelevels.Amuteallfunctionallows
allofthemonitoroutputchannelstobe
simultaneouslymuted.Themute/solosec-
tionprovidesindividualchannelcontrol.
Onepushbuttonswitchsetstheoperating
modeforeithermuteorsolo.Inthemute
mode,individualchannelscanbemuted
asrequired.Inthesolomode,onechan-
nelcanbemonitoredwhiletheothersare
automaticallymuted.Dependingonthe
configuration,multiplechannelscanbe
simultaneouslyselectedfor“soloing.”The
flexibilityofhavingbothmuteandsolo
availableallowsanoperatortoquickly
selectthemostcomfortableandproductive
operatingmode.
Twofunctionsallowtheformatofthe
monitoredsourcestobecheckedfor
levelorphaseinconsistencies.The5.1
tostereodownmixfunctionisusedto
createastereosignalfroma5.1(sur-
round)source.Thestereotomonodown-
mixfunctionallowsastereosignaltobe
added(summed)andmonitored.Thetwo
downmixfunctionscanbesimultaneously
enabled,allowingasurroundsignaltobe
checkedformonocompatibility.Theoper-
atingmodeofthestereotomonodownmix
functioncanbeselectedfromtwochoices:
mono-to-left-and-rightormono-to-center.
Thisallowssupportforbothmusicand
audio-with-pictureapplications.Abandpass
filterfeatureisassociatedwiththestereoto
monodownmixfunction.Itisincludedtoas-
sistanoperatorindeterminingcompatibility
with“realworld”playbackenvironments.
Abandpassfiltercanbeinsertedintothe
pathofthemonosignal,allowing
theresponseofamonauralloudspeaker
associatedwithaninexpensivetelevisionor
portableradiotobesimulated.
Tosupporttheheadphonecuesystem
functionstheModel75ControlConsole
includesthreepushbuttonswitchesand
anintegralmicrophone.Asexpected,one
buttonisusedtoenablethetalkbackfunc-
tion.Theothertwobuttonsareusedtoset
thetalkbackleveloveran8-steprange.
Thesebuttonsarealsousedtoselect
whichaudiosourceisroutedtothehead-
phones.Twochoicesareprovided:theleft
andrightchannelsofthesourceselected
formonitoring,ortheleftandrightchannels
associatedwithStereoinputB.
Inmanycasesthetalkbackbuttoncon-
tainedintheModel75willbeusedtoiniti-
atethetalkbackfunction.However,some
applicationsmaybenefitfrombeingable
toremotelyactivatetalkback.Ahard-wired
signalcanbeconnectedtotheremote
talkbackinput.Inthiswayvarioustypes
ofexternalwiredandwirelessequipment
canbeinterfaced.Aninfrared(IR)receiver
modulecanalsobedirectlyconnected.
Thisallowstheuseofawirelesstransmitter
toenabletalkback.Themicrophonecon-
tainedwithintheModel75ControlConsole
providescrisp,cleartalkbackaudio.But
someinstallationsmaybenefitfromusing
analternatesourceoftalkbackaudio.This
capabilityisprovidedbytheModel74’s
line-leveltalkbackaudioinput.
