headphone“talkback”cuesystem.The
systemisaperfectfitforcontemporaryfa-
cilitiesthatneedtoperformavarietyofau-
diotasks.Thesecanincludesurroundand
stereomixingandmonitoring,liverecord-
ingofvoice,music,andsoundeffects,and
on-airbroadcastapplications.Thesystem’s
featureswerecarefullyselectedtopro-
videextensivecapabilitieswhileremaining
simpletooperate.Ofoverridingconcern
ismaintainingthequalityoftheconnected
audiosources.Thisisaccomplishedusing
acombinationofexcellentcircuitdesign
andcarefullyselectedcomponents.The
Model74/Model75combinationisidealfor
addingsurroundmonitoringcapabilityto
disk-basedrecordingsystems.It’salsowell
suitedforupgradingapost-productionor
broadcastfacilitytosupportmulti-channel
monitoring.

74/75systembeginswiththeModel75
ControlConsole,acompactusercontrol
surfacethatisintuitiveandcomfortable
touse.Itisdesignedtoresideattheop-
erator’slocation.TheModel75connects
totheModel74CentralControllerusing
asingle9-pincable.Occupyingonerack
space,theModel74providesallaudio
inputandoutputcircuitry,signalrouting
andcontrol,andpowersupplyfunctions.
TocompletethesystemuptofourModel
35TalentAmplifiermodulescanbeadded.
TheseconnecttotheModel74using
standard3-pinXLRaudiocables.Model
35unitsaretypicallydeployedinvoice-
overbooths,studioareas,orotherloca-
tionswherevoiceormusictalentneeds
accesstoaheadphonecuefeed.Each
unitprovidesastereoaudioamplifier,user
controls,andsupportforoneortwopairs
ofheadphones.

TheModel74CentralControllerisa
singlerack-space(1U)unitthatcontains
analog,digital,andpowersupplyelectron-
ics.Fouranalogsourcescanbeconnect-
ed:twosurround(5.1)andtwostereo.In
manyapplicationsthefirstsurroundinput,
SurroundA,willbeconnectedtoamulti-
channeloutputonanaudioconsoleor
digitalaudioworkstation.Thesecondsur-
roundinput,SurroundB,willbeconnected
toaplaybackdevicesuchasadiskstor-
agesystem.Forfilmorvideopostapplica-
tionsSurroundAwouldbeconsideredthe
directsource,whileSurroundBwouldbe
consideredtheplaybacksource.
Thetwostereoinputs,StereoAand
StereoB,areprovidedforgeneral-purpose
useandcanbeconnectedtoavariety
of2-channeldirectandplaybacksources.
Forflexibility,thesurroundandstereo
inputsarecompatiblewithbalancedor
unbalancedsignalshavinganominallevel
rangeof–12dBVto+6dBu.Fifteen-turn
trimpotentiometersareusedtoprecisely
calibratetheinputsignals.
