Therealityisthatacablelongerinlength
than50feetshouldworkcorrectly,aslong
asanexcellent-qualitycableisutilized.We
define“excellent”asextensiveshielding
alongwithverylowcapacitance.Thelow
cablecapacitanceisimportantasitlimits
theamountofdata-signalwaveformdistor-
tion.Asfarasdetermininganactualmaxi-
mumlength,justtestandseehowfaraway
youcango—ifitworks,itworks!Atermina-
tionresistorconnectedfrompin3topin4
attheModel75’sendoftheinterconnecting
cablemayhelptosupportalongercable
“run.”Thevalueoftheterminationresistor
shouldbeintherangeof3.3k(3300)to
10k(10000)ohms.Acommonlyavailable
¼-watt,5%toleranceresistorisperfectly
acceptable.
InfraredRemoteControlInput
Aninfrared(IR)receivermodulecanbe
directlyconnectedtotheModel74.This
allows,withanappropriateIRtransmitter,
wirelessactivationofthetalkbackfunc-
tion.TheIRreceiverconnectstotheModel
74usinga3.5millimeter3-conductorjack
whichislocatedonthebackpanel.Thejack
complieswiththestandardconventionfor
IRreceivermodules:dataonthetiplead,
groundontheringlead,and12voltsDC
onthesleevelead.Compatiblemodules
areavailablefromanumberofcompanies.

niceandworksadequately.Forexcellent

Phantomhasprovenitsworth.
