English Most STIHL power tools are available with an anti-vibration ("AV") system designed to reduce the transmission of vibrations created by the machine to the operator's hands. An AV system is recommended for those persons using power tools on a regular or sustained basis. – Wear gloves and keep your hands warm. – Keep the AV system well maintained. A power tool with loose components or with damaged or worn AV elements will tend to have higher vibration levels.

English Familiarize yourself with the characteristics for the category you are using. Chemicals may be used only by persons trained in their handling and the appropriate first-aid measures. WARNING Mix only compatible pesticides. Wrong mixtures can produce toxic fumes. When handling chemicals and when spraying, make sure you are operating in accordance with local, state, and federal environmental protection rules and guidelines. Do not spray in windy conditions.
English Fuel Your STIHL power tool uses an oilgasoline mixture for fuel (see the "Fuel" chapter in this instruction manual). WARNING Gasoline is an extremely flammable fuel. If spilled and ignited by a spark or other ignition source, it can cause fire and serious burn injury or property damage. Use extreme caution when handling gasoline or fuel mix. Do not smoke or bring any fire or flame near the fuel or the power tool. Note that combustible fuel vapor may escape from the fuel system.
English How to Avoid Fuel Spraying Removing the fuel cap on a pressurized tank can result in gasoline, vapors and fumes being forcefully sprayed out from the fuel tank in all directions. To reduce the risk of burns, serious injuries or property damage from fuel spraying: – Follow the fueling instructions in this chapter. – Always assume your fuel tank is pressurized. – Allow the power tool to cool before removing the fuel cap. – In hot environments, cooling will take longer.
English To relieve vapor lock: – – – Press the manual fuel pump bulb at least 20 to 30 times – even if the bulb is already filled with fuel – to clear the vapor and send liquid fuel into the carburetor. Then start the power tool. Fill your power tool in well-ventilated areas, outdoors.

English WARNING WARNING WARNING To reduce the risk of loss of control, never carry the unit with the strap(s) over one shoulder. To reduce the risk of injury from loss of control, never work on a ladder, in a tree or on any other insecure support. Inhalation of chemicals can cause susceptible persons to have an allergic or asthmatic reaction. Wrap your fingers tightly around the handle, keeping the control handle cradled between your thumb and forefinger.
English Operating instructions WARNING In the event of an emergency, switch off the engine immediately – move the setting lever to 0 or STOP. WARNING Never spray in the direction of humans, animals or property which might be injured or damaged by spray formula. Pay attention to the direction of the wind, i.e., do not work against the wind. When spraying, stand so that the wind does not blow towards you or bystanders. Keep children and pets away from areas that have just been sprayed.
English (i.e., not too rich), this screen will normally stay clean as a result of the heat from the muffler and need no service or maintenance. If you experience loss of performance and you suspect a clogged screen, have your muffler maintained by a STIHL servicing dealer. Some state or federal laws or regulations may require a properly maintained spark arrestor for certain uses. See the "Maintenance, Repair and Storing" section of these Safety Precautions.
English Store the power tool in a dry and high or locked location out of reach of children. Before storing for longer than a few days, always empty the fuel tank. See chapter "Storing the machine" in this instruction manual. NOTICE The solution hose and throttle cable are already connected and must not be kinked while assembling the machine. The combination wrench and screwdriver are in the supplied accessory bag.

N Mounting the Blower Tube and Nozzle 4 3 N Push the blower tube (1) into the stub of pleated hose (2) as far as the stop. English Harness Fuel This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline and the STIHL twostroke engine oil at a mix ratio of 50:1. Adjusting the Harness 373BA003 KN Your engine requires a mixture of highquality gasoline and two-stroke air cooled engine oil. N Pull the ends of the straps downwards to tighten the harness. N Adjust the harness so that the backplate fits snugly and securely against your back. NOTICE Fuel with an octane rating below 89 may increase engine temperatures.
English STIHL MotoMix uses STIHL HP Ultra two-stroke engine oil suited for high performance engines. The machine's fuel tank should be cleaned as necessary. For further details, see www.STIHLusa.com/ethanol Fuel mix ages If not using MotoMix, use only STIHL two-stroke engine oil or equivalent highquality two-stroke engine oils that are designed for use in air cooled two-cycle engines. If not using MotoMix, only mix sufficient fuel for a few days of work, not to exceed 30 days of storage.
English Never remove the cap by turning it directly to the open position. Turn it first approximately 1/2 of a turn counter-clockwise to relieve any residual pressure. – Never open the fuel tank while the engine is still hot or running. – Never open the fuel tank or re-fuel the power tool near any sparks, flames or other ignition sources. – Pick the right fuel: use only good quality (89 octane or higher), fresh fuel blended for the season.
English If your fuel cap still does not tighten properly, it may be damaged or broken. Stop using the power tool and take it to your authorized STIHL dealer for repair or replacement. English Operating Instructions Calculating Required Quantity of Solution During Operation Determining surface area (m2) After a long period of full throttle operation, allow the engine to run for a short while at idle speed so that engine heat can be dissipated by the flow of cooling air. This helps protect enginemounted components (ignition, carburetor) from thermal overload. In the case of ground crops, simply multiply the length of the field by its width.
English Determining walking speed Carry out a trial run with the machine fueled and the container filled with water. Operate the spray tube (swing it back and forth) as for the real run described below. Determine the distance walked in one minute. Also use the trial run to check the selected working width. The best working width for low-growing crops is 4–5 m. Mark the working width with stakes.

English Filling the Container 2431BA011 KN Turn the cap counterclockwise until it can be removed from the container opening. N 2431BA021 KN 1 N The gasket (1) in the cap must be in good condition and clean. N Stand the machine on a level surface. Pour thoroughly mixed spray solution into the container through the strainer. 5L N Open the valve lever – see "Metering Unit". N Always use full throttle when mistblowing.

N Refit the filter cover and turn the filter cover lock to the horizontal position Engine Management Exhaust emissions are controlled by the design of the engine and components (e.g. carburation, ignition, timing and valve or port timing). Adjusting the Carburetor The carburetor has been set at the factory to provide an optimum fuel-air mixture under most operating conditions.
English Checking the Spark Plug Spark Plug If there is a loss of engine power, the machine is difficult to start or runs poorly at idle, first check the spark plug. A The wrong fuel mix (too much engine oil in the gasoline), a dirty air filter and unfavorable running conditions (mostly at part throttle etc.) affect the condition of the spark plug. These factors cause deposits to form on the insulator nose, which may degrade performance. Removing the Spark Plug N Clean dirty spark plug.
English Engine Running Behavior If engine running behavior is unsatisfactory even though the air filter is clean and the carburetor is properly adjusted, the cause may be the muffler. Have the muffler checked for contamination (carbonization) by your servicing dealer. Spark Arrestor in Muffler and Spacer WARNING To reduce the risk of damage to persons or objects from contact with hot parts, never operate the machine without a spacer, or with the spacer damaged.
