Not cutting the lawn too short in hot, dry
conditions as it will be burnt by the sun
and become unsightly.
Using a sharp mowing blade – mowing
blade should therefore be sharpened
regularly (specialist dealer).
Changing the cutting direction regularly.
10.1 Working area for operator
For safety reasons, the operator
must stay within the working area
behind the handlebar when starting the
engine and when the engine is running.
Always observe the safety distance
provided by the handlebar.
The lawn mower must only be operated
by one person. Other persons must
keep out of the danger area. (Ö 4.)
11.1 Starting the engine
Press motorstop lever (1) to the
handlebar and hold.
Slowly pull out recoil starter rope (2) to
the point of compression resistance.
Then pull vigorously and quickly to
arm’s length. Slowly return recoil starter
rope (2) again so that it is rolled up
again.
Repeat the procedure until the engine
starts.
11.2 Stopping the engine
To stop the engine, release
motorstop lever (1).
Engine and mowing blade come to a
stop after a short run-down time.
11.3 Self-propulsion (RM 443 T,
RM 448 PC, RM 448 PT,
RM 448 T, RM 448 TX,
RM 448 TC, RM 448 VC)
The lawn mowers RM 443 T, RM 448 PC,
RM 448 PT, RM 448 T, RM 448 TX,
RM 448 TC and RM 448 VC are equipped
with self-propulsion.
RM 443 T, RM 448 PC, RM 448 PT,
RM 448 T, RM 448 TX, RM 448 TC:
One forward drive speed (single-speed
gearbox)
RM 448 VC:
Continuously variable forward drive speed
when driving (Vario gearbox)
Switching on self-propulsion:
Start the engine. (Ö 11.1)
Pull self-propulsion lever (1) to the
handlebar and hold.
Self-propulsion is switched on and the
lawn mower moves forwards.
Setting the drive speed (RM 448 VC):
Increasing the driving speed:
Push Vario drive lever (2)
forwards when driving.
Reducing the driving speed:
Pull Vario drive lever (2)
rearwards when driving.
Switching off self-propulsion:
Release self-propulsion lever (1). Self-
propulsion is switched off and the lawn
mower comes to a standstill. The
engine continues to run.
11.4 Emptying the grass catcher
box
Detach the grass catcher box. (Ö 8.3)
Open the grass catcher box at the
tab (1). Fold up the upper part of the
grass catcher box (2) and hold. Fold the
grass catcher box rearwards and empty
the clippings.
Close the grass catcher box.
Attach the grass catcher box. (Ö 8.3)
11. Operating the machine
Do not start the engine in tall grass.
Select a higher cutting height
setting if the engine is difficult to
start.
Thanks to the fixed throttle setting,
the engine always operates at the
optimum working speed after
starting.

Avoid damage to the machine!
Always actuate the self-propulsion
lever fully (to the stop) in order to
prevent resultant damage to the
gearbox.
Avoid damage to the machine!
Only actuate Vario drive lever (2)
when the engine is running.
Risk of injury!
For safety reasons, the engine
must be stopped before removing
the grass catcher box.
