13 Overload Cutout
13.1 Resetting the Overload Cutout
The chain saw has an electrical overload protection
mechanism. If the chain saw is subject to mechanical
overload due to excessive feed force or pinching the saw
chain in the cut, for example, the overload cutout interrupts
the electric current to the saw. Activation of the overload
cutout thus helps protect the chain saw from an over-supply
of electrical current.
To reset the overload cutout:
► Pull the guide bar out of the cut and engage the chain
brake.
► Wait a few minutes until the overload cutout mechanism
has cooled down.
► Depress the reset button (1).
If the reset button engages, the electric circuit is no longer
interrupted and the chain saw can be switched on again
once the chain brake is released.
► If the reset button doesn‘t engage, it hasn't sufficiently
cooled down. Wait a few minutes and then press the
button again.
► Switch on the chain saw and let the saw chain rotate at
maximum speed for about 15 seconds. This will help cool
the overload cutout mechanism.
14.1 Switching On
WARNING
Never operate your chain saw if it is damaged, improperly
adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely
assembled or not functioning properly, @ 6.4. To reduce
the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and
protective apparel, including proper eye protection, when
operating your chain saw, @ 6.3.
Before switching on:
► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing.
► Stand upright.
► Always hold and operate the chain saw with your right
hand firmly on the rear or control handle and your left hand
firmly on the front handle. Always hold the chain saw with
two hands in this manner, whether you are right-handed or
left-handed.
To switch the chain saw on:
► Disengage the chain brake, @ 12.2.
► Depress and hold the trigger switch lockout (1) with your
thumb.
► While holding the trigger switch lockout, squeeze the
trigger switch (2) with your index finger.
The saw chain will start rotating.
