11.4.2 Filling the Chain Oil Tank
Refill the oil tank when the oil level reaches the "OIL min"
mark (1).
If the oil level in the tank does not go down, there may be a
problem in the oil supply system.
Have the oil supply system checked by an authorized
STIHL servicing dealer before further use.
To fill the chain oil tank:
Switch off the chain saw, @ 14.2.
Engage the chain brake, @ 12.1.
Disconnect the chain saw from the power supply.
Position the chain saw on a level surface with the oil filler
cap facing upwards.
Clean the area around the oil filler cap with a slightly
dampened cloth.
Turn the oil filler cap counterclockwise until it can be
removed.
Remove the oil filler cap and fill the tank with chain oil.
Take care not to spill chain oil while refilling the tank.
Do not overfill the tank. Leave approximately 0.5 in.
(13 mm) of air space.
To close the tank:
Position the oil filler cap on the oil tank filler neck and
press it down while turning it clockwise until it is tight.

WARNING
The chain brake will operate only if it has been properly
maintained and the front hand guard has not been modified,
@ 7.2.
WARNING
No chain brake device prevents kickback. This device is
designed to reduce the risk of kickback injury, if activated, in
certain kickback situations. For the chain brake to remain in
good working order, it must be properly maintained, @ 7.2.
In the event of a kickback, the chain brake is designed to
engage if the left hand contacts the front hand guard and
pushes it forward.
