23.2 Adjusting Idle Speed
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from loss of control
and/or contact with the saw chain, do not use your saw with
incorrect idle adjustment. At correct idle speed, the chain
should not move. If the chain continues moving when the
engine is idling, have your saw checked and repaired by
your servicing dealer.
Engine stops when idling
Adjust the saw's idle speed:
► Return the carburetor to the standard setting, @ 17.5.
► Start the engine and disengage the chain brake.
► Warm up the engine by opening and closing throttle for
about 1 minute.
► If the engine continues to stop while idling, turn the idle
speed screw (LA) half a turn clockwise and restart the
engine.
► Turn the idle speed screw (LA) clockwise until the chain
begins to run.
► Turn the idle speed screw (LA) one full turn
counter-clockwise.
Saw chain moves continuously when engine is idling
Adjust the saw's idle speed:
► Return the carburetor to the standard setting, @ 17.5.
► Start the engine and disengage the chain brake.
► Warm up the engine by opening and closing throttle for
about 1 minute.
► Turn the idle speed screw (LA) counter-clockwise until the
chain stops rotating.
► Turn the idle speed screw (LA) one full turn
counter-clockwise.
23.3 Clearing the Combustion Chamber
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury, use only spark
plugs authorized by STIHL. Always press the spark plug
boot snugly onto the spark plug terminal.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire, always move the Master Control
Lever to position and hold it in this position before pulling
the starter grip if the spark plug boot has been removed.
If you believe the engine is flooded, you must clear the
combustion chamber before you can start the saw. To clear
the combustion chamber:
► Shut off the engine, @ 15.1.
► Engage the chain brake, @ 12.1.
► Allow the chain saw to cool down.
