21 Cleaning
► After the air filter (3) has dried thoroughly, push it into
place by hand.
► Place the filter cover (2) in position.
► Tighten the filter cover lock (1) until you hear an audible
click.
WARNING
Cleaning agent may cause irritation if it contacts the skin or
eyes. Avoid contact. Read and follow all safety precautions
that accompany the cleaning agent. In case of contact with
the skin: Wash affected areas with plenty of water and soap.
In case of contact with the eyes: Rinse eyes with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice.
NOTICE
To reduce the risk of damage, never use a tool to install or
remove the air filter.
NOTICE
Exposure to high temperatures and oil can damage the air
filter and reduce filtering efficiency. Allow the air filter to air
dry away from external heat sources. Keep the air filter away
from oil.
21.4 Cleaning the Spark Plug
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury, use only spark
plugs authorized by STIHL. Always press the spark plug
boot snugly onto the spark plug terminal.
WARNING
Do not use a spark plug with a detachable SAE adapter
terminal (1). Arcing may occur that could ignite combustible
fumes and cause a fire. This can result in serious injuries or
damage to property. Only use resistor type spark plugs with
solid, non-threaded terminals (2).
Using the wrong fuel mix (too much engine oil in the
gasoline), a dirty air filter, and unfavorable running
conditions (running for extended periods at partial throttle)
can affect the condition of the spark plug and cause deposits
to form on the insulator nose, degrading performance.
To clean the spark plug:
► Shut off the engine, @ 15.1.
► Engage the chain brake, @ 12.1.
► Allow the chain saw to cool down.
