14 Starting the Engine
the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and
protective apparel, including proper eye protection, when
operating your chain saw, @ 5.3.
To perform the pre-starting procedure:
► Engage the chain brake (2), @ 12.1.
► Depress the decompression valve (1).
► Press down the throttle trigger lockout (5) and squeeze
the throttle trigger (4) at the same time.
► Set the Master Control Lever (3) to position .
► Hold the chain saw firmly and pull the starter grip slowly
with your right hand until you feel it engage.
► Pull the starter grip quickly and allow the starter rope to
rewind several times until the engine fires and shuts off.
► Do not pull out the starter rope to full length and do not let
the starter grip snap back. Guide it slowly back into the
housing so that the starter rope can rewind properly.
► If the engine does not shut off: Set the Master Control
Lever to position so that the engine does not flood.
The engine will shut off.
► Start the engine, @ 14.4.
14.4 Starting the Engine
WARNING
Never operate your chain saw if it is damaged, improperly
adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely
assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.4. To reduce
the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and
protective apparel, including proper eye protection, when
operating your chain saw, @ 5.3.
Before starting the engine:
► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing.
► Stand upright.
► Always hold and operate the chain saw with your right
hand firmly on the rear or control handle and your left hand
firmly on the front handle. Always hold the chain saw with
two hands in this manner, whether you are right-handed or
left-handed.
To start the engine:
► Engage the chain brake (2), @ 12.1.
► Remove the chain scabbard.
► Depress the decompression valve (1).
► Press down the throttle trigger lockout (5) and squeeze
the throttle trigger (4) at the same time.
► Set the Master Control Lever (3) first to position and
then to position .
► Hold the chain saw firmly and pull the starter grip slowly
with your right hand until you feel it engage.
► Pull the starter grip quickly and allow the starter rope to
rewind several times until the engine runs.
► Do not pull out the starter rope to full length and do not let
the starter grip snap back. Guide it slowly back into the
housing so that the starter rope can rewind properly.
