21.3 Different Standard Settings
These chain saws are equipped with carburetors
that have different standard settings:
21.3.1 Standard setting A
High speed screw (H) = 3/4
Low speed screw (L) = 1
21.3.2 Standard setting B
High speed screw (H) = 3/4
Low speed screw (L) = 1/4
21.3.3 Determining standard setting

Determine the required standard setting as fol‐
lows: Turn the low speed screw (L) carefully
clockwise as far as stop, then turn it counter‐
clockwise.
Is range of adjustment more than 1 turn?
Continue with
"Standard setting A"
Is range of adjustment less than 1 turn?
Continue with
"Standard setting B"
21.4 Standard Setting A

Turn high speed screw (H) counterclockwise
as far as stop (no more than 3/4 turn).
Turn the low speed screw (L) carefully clock‐
wise until it is against its seat, then turn it back
1 full turn
21.5 Standard Setting B

Turn high speed screw (H) counterclockwise
as far as stop (no more than 3/4 turn).
Turn the low speed screw (L) clockwise as far
as stop, then turn it back 1/4 turn.
21.6 Adjusting Idle Speed
Carry out standard setting.
Start and warm up the engine.

21.6.1 Engine stops while idling
Turn the idle speed screw (LA) clockwise until
the chain begins to run – then back it off
1 1/2 turns.
21.6.2 Saw chain runs while engine is idling
Turn the idle speed screw (LA) counterclock‐
wise until the chain stops running – then turn it
another 1 1/2 turns in the same direction.
WARNING
If the chain continues moving when the engine is
idling, have your saw checked and repaired by
your servicing dealer.
21.6.3 Erratic engine idling speed; poor
acceleration (even though low speed
screw (L) = 1 in standard setting A or
low speed screw (L) = 1/4 in standard
setting B)
Idle setting is too lean
