Removing the fan housing
N Take out the screws (1).
N Push the hand guard upwards.
N Pull the underside of the fan
housing away from the crankcase
and remove it downwards.
Replacing a broken starter rope
N Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers
to remove the spring clip (2) from
the starter post.
N Carefully remove the rope rotor with
washer (3) and pawls (4).
Models with ElastoStart
N Use a screwdriver to pry the rope
out of the starter grip.
N Remove the remaining rope from
the rotor and starter grip.
N Thread the new rope through the
top of the starter grip.
Models without ElastoStart
N Use a screwdriver to pry the rope
out of the starter grip.
N Remove the remaining rope from
the rotor and starter grip.
N Thread the new rope through the
starter grip and tie one of the special
knots shown.
N Pull the knot back into the grip.
All Models
N Thread the end of the rope through
the top of the guide bushing (5) and
rope rotor (6) and secure it with a
simple overhand knot.
N Coat rope rotor bearing bore with
non-resinous oil.
N Slip the rotor over the starter
post (7) – turn it back and forth to
engage the anchor loop of the
rewind spring.
The rewind spring may pop out
and uncoil during this operation –
take care to reduce risk of injury.
