Your two-stroke engine requires a mixture of brand-name gasoline and quality two-stroke engine oil with the classification TC. Use regular branded unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 RON. If the octane rating of the regular grade gasoline in your area is lower use premium unleaded fuel. Note: Units with a catalytic converter require unleaded gasoline.

This results in hard deposits that are difficult to remove, especially in the area of the chain drive and chain. It may even cause the oil pump to seize. Inadequate lubrication can be caused by a dirty oil strainer: Have the oil strainer between the tank and pump cleaned or replaced by your STIHL dealer. Every new chain has to be broken in for about 2 to 3 minutes. After breaking in the chain, check chain tension and adjust if necessary – see chapter "Checking Chain Tension".

This avoids unnecessary high loads during the break-in period. As all moving parts have to bed in during the break-in period, the frictional resistances in the engine are greater during this period.
