Always pull the cocking
slide back with your palm facing
up as shown in the accompanying
photograph to prevent your knuck-
les from being cut or scraped on
any devices, such as optics, that
may be mounted on the Picatinny
rail of the receiver.
(1) pull the cocking slide back with
your left hand and lock it in the
rear position by turning it clock-
wise and allowing it to rest on the
indentation on the receiver; and
(2) turn the cocking slide counter-
clockwise with the thumb of your
left hand and allow the cocking
slide and bolt carrier to move for-
ward from the force of the recoil
spring.
OR
If the cocking slide is in the forward position, hold the pistol grip with
your right hand and, while keeping your finger off of the trigger and
outside of the trigger guard:
