15. Complete the Finished Wall
For Whirlpool-Only Installations
NOTE: Locate and size the holes for the valves, shower control, spout, and or shower in the water
resistant and finished walls according to the manufacturer’s requirements.
NOTE: Apply the water-resistant wall material over the whirlpool flange leaving a 1/4″ (6 mm) gap
between the whirlpool rim edge and the wall material. This gap helps to reduce the possibility of water
seeping into the wall material.
Brush all dust and debris from the whirlpool flange.
Cover the framing with water-resistant wall material.
Seal the 1/4″ (6 mm) gap between the whirlpool rim edge and the water-resistant wall material with
silicone sealant.
Apply the finished wall material over the whirlpool flange leaving a 1/4″ (6 mm) gap between the
whirlpool rim edge and the wall material.
NOTE: If the tile or other finished wall material is correctly installed, the tab shown in the illustration will
present no interference. However, if the tile comes into contact with the tab, it may be removed. Use a
coping saw, hacksaw, or tile nippers to remove it. A coping saw is recommended.
•
Cut the tab horizontally along the bottom of the tab up to the wainscot surface.
•
Cut the tab vertically down the side of the tab to the start of the nailing-in flange.
•
After cutting, remove the tab.
•
If needed, use a file, rasp, or sharp knife to smooth the rough edges.
Install the finished wall over the water-resistant wall material.
16. Finish the Installation
For All Installations
CAUTION: Risk of property damage. Ensure a watertight seal on the whirlpool drain and overflow.
Apply silicone sealant to all openings around valves and outlets before installing the cover plates or
flanges.
Install the faucet trim according to the faucet manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure that sealant is
properly applied at every hole and that it is properly cured.
Remove the protective covering from the basin of the whirlpool.
