4. Prepare the Bath - Alcove

NOTE: If the bath cannot be directly bonded to the subfloor or if decreased
movement is desired, consider installing an optional mortar cement bed following the
″Install a Mortar Cement Bed″ steps below.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the finish of the bath, make sure that there is a drop cloth
or other protective liner in the bath before proceeding.
Dry fit the bath.
Verify that the bath is level and well supported by the subfloor.
NOTE: If the bath is not level: Follow the ″Install a Mortar Cement Bed″ procedure
below, or install shims below the bath with metal, hardwood, or other durable
material. Reposition and shim the bath until it is aligned with the framing and level.
Mark the height of the bath flange on each walled side.
Remove the bath.
Measure down 1-9/16″ (4 cm) from the first mark and make a second mark.
