Downstroke Bed Knives
Figure 6: Downstroke Bed Knife Adjustment
1. Turn the Main Power switch to Off, lockout the power supply,
and remove the line fuses.
2. Remove the downstroke cover screws at the rear of the
machine (this includes the safety switch actuator arm screw),
and carefully slide the cover(s) out of the machine. (See Figure
6.)
3. Remove the bed knife/shield screws, shields, and bed knives.
The bed knives can be reground (1/4” max.), repositioned, or
replaced. Before replacing the bed knives, thoroughly clean the
bed knife seats.
4. Replace the individual bed knives on the bed knife seats and
the bed knife shield(s) on the knives, and tighten the screws
until they are finger-tight.
NOTE: The same screws and washers should be re-used only when
the bed knives have been repositioned or reground. When blunt
knives are discarded and replaced with new knives, use new
screws and washers. This will reduce the risk of screw failure due
to overstretching. Screws and washers must be replaced with the
type specified in the Spare Parts List in Section 8 on page 42.
5. Using the bed knife adjusting push screws, adjust the bed
knives to the rotor knives using a feeler gauge, until the
clearance between the ends of the rotor knives and the
bedknives is 0.006” (0.15 mm) to 0.008” (0.20 mm). This
