6 Maintenance
6-1 Introduction
This section covers the Lubrication Points and their Frequencies of
Application. The use of proper lubricants will help reduce wear
and down time. This section also delineates the Preventative and
Corrective maintenance procedures required to ensure proper
functioning of the machine.

6-2-1 Adjusting or Replacing the Bed Knives
During normal use, the cutting edges of the upstroke and
downstroke bed knives will eventually become dulled, resulting in
reduced efficiency. The bed knives are provided with two cutting
edges. Therefore, when one edge becomes blunt, the knife can be
repositioned to present a new cutting edge to the material.
The knives can also be reground whenever both of the cutting
edges become blunt. When further regrinding of the edges is no
longer possible (maximum dimensional change of 1/4”), the blunt
knife must be replaced.
