2. In the Properties panel, enter the new ngering you want into the Finger or position
value eld in the Fingering and Positions group.
3. Save your change in any of the following ways:
Press Return.
Click outside of the value eld.
RESULT
The selected ngerings are changed.
TIP
You can also change existing ngerings by opening the ngerings popover. Any existing
ngerings on the selected note are shown in the popover.

Changing the placement of ngerings relative to the staff
Dorico Elements automatically follows conventions for ngering placement, but you can change
the placement of ngerings relative to the staff individually.
According to conventions, keyboard instrument ngering is positioned above the right-hand
staff, and below the left-hand staff. String and brass instrument ngering is always positioned
above the staff.
PROCEDURE
1. Select the ngerings whose position relative to the staff you want to change.
2. In the Properties panel, activate Staff-relative position in the Fingering and Positions
group.
3. Choose one of the following options:
Above
Below
RESULT
The selected ngerings appear above/below the staff.
Hiding/Showing ngering
You can hide/show ngering in each layout in your project independently of other layouts. For
example, you can show ngering in part layouts but hide ngering in full score layouts as
conductors rarely require ngering information.
PROCEDURE
1. In Setup mode, choose Setup > Layout Options.
The Layout Options dialog opens.
2. In the Layouts list, select the layouts in which you want to hide/show ngering in one of
the following ways:
